UK: Parade, Dancing and Exercise Demonstrations in the Historical City of Cambridge

The historical city of Cambridge had a “Chinese Weekend” with many different events displaying Chinese culture from 18-20 October 2002. Falun Dafa practitioners held a parade and exercise demonstration accompanied by traditional Chinese dancing through Cambridge city centre on Saturday 19th October.

The parade finished and ended in Parker’s Piece, a popular recreational area. Female practitioners were dressed in traditional Chinese dancing costumes and dresses from the Tang Dynasty, the most prosperous period in China’s history. Male practitioners were dressed in traditional yellow practice suits and carried beautiful banners displaying the Falun emblem and the fundamental principles of Falun Dafa - Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. As they walked through the city, many people were interested in taking a flyer to learn more about Falun Dafa. A lot of Chinese people were present for the weekend’s festivities. Many of them had been afraid to take a leaflet in earlier activities in Cambridge city centre due to immense pressure from the Jiang Zemin regime. However, when they saw the beautiful procession, they realised that Falun Dafa is respected in countries outside of Mainland China and they had nothing to fear from learning the truth about Jiang Zemin’s brutal reign of terror and the benefits that Dafa has brought to millions.

As the parade reached the city centre, practitioners stopped and performed some demonstrations. The female practitioners performed the fan dance and afterwards the males joined them for an exercise demonstration. The weather was very clear and bright and many people in the town centre stopped to enjoy the display and find out more about Falun Dafa. The parade continued through the city centre and past King’s college before another demonstration near the market place. Many people expressed an interest in learning more about the practice of Falun Dafa and a deep sympathy for the practitioners in China. They told of their disgust for the atrocities carried out by the Jiang regime and hoped that this terrible suppression could finish as soon as possible. The parade finally returned to Parker’s Piece for a further exercise demonstration.
