During this event, interesting conversations ensued repeatedly. Those people who hear about the persecution for the first time compare it to the Holocaust during the reign of Hitler. They ask themselves, and us, how civilized governments the world over can allow something like this to happen and why there is no public outcry for sanctions against China.
Those people who are already familiar with the plight of the good-hearted, persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in China from previous exposure to the information ask detailed and interesting questions and want to be specifically informed. They also inquire what they, as individuals, can do to help. The signature lists were at the ready at all times. Practitioners asked the passers-by who took informational materials to please pass them on to other people.
We encountered a woman whose son had worked in China for many years as a Tai Chi instructor. She was pleased with the information and told us that she had already heard much through the media about the suppression from Jiangs regime and the senseless suffering the practitioners have to endure. She knows a Chinese man who often works in Switzerland, offering courses in Tai Chi instruction. The Chinese regime degraded him and forbid him from teaching and he was therefore unable to pursue his profession any longer. She mused that a government that treats her people in such a way cannot be a good government and it is high time to punish those who are the real villains. She gladly accepted several pieces of material from us as well as two VCDs, both in German and Chinese, saying that she frequently entertains Chinese visitors at her home. She wants to let these visitors know the true situation, what is really going on in China, and explain with the aid of the flyers and the video presentation.
