Zhang Quanliang, Gu's son in law, was detained for fifteen days because he went to Beijing to appeal. One night when he was meditating by a tree outside the ward where he had taken care of his endangered father in law for days, the security guard saw him and sent him to a detention centre. On September 30, 2000, the police ordered Zhang Quanliang and his wife to report to the local police station. They had a clear knowledge that they would be detained there if they went, so the couple hurried up after saying goodbye to their two year-old son, their recovering father and their mother who had just been released from jail. They were forced to become destitute and homeless. Because Zhang Quanliang went to Beijing to appeal again by the end of December 2000, he was arrested and sentenced to three years in a labour camp. At present he is illegally imprisoned in the Xishanping Labour Camp.
As confirmed by people who were just released from the labour camp, Zhang Quanliang refused to write the so called "Three Statements", so the police had over a dozen drug addicts take turns keeping a close watch over him. He is now suffering all kinds of tortures and is on the verge of death, but the police do not allow Gu Zhiyi to visit him. Gu Zhiyi is now forced to raise the family alone, and take care of her disabled husband, sickly daughter and young grandson.
Here we are calling our fellow practitioners over the world to help Zhang Quanliang, who is imprisoned in the Xishanping Labour Camp, Chongqing City.
