Practitioner Yuan Lin Endures a Year of Torture for Revealing the Truth

Yuan Lin, 48, was an instructor in the Graduate School of Beijing University. In December 2001, she was abducted from where she was helping to make materials which revealed the facts about Falun Gong and the persecution. For the first month, she was held in a detention centre where police and criminals tortured her and cruelly force-fed her. After every force-feeding, thugs stamped on her abdomen. Even this did not alter her righteous belief in her right to practice Falun Dafa (Falun Gong). But Jiang, the instigator and architect of the persecution against Falun Gong harbours such extreme fear of Falun Gong practitioners revealing the facts of the persecution to people that he will stop at nothing to enforce the persecution, especially of practitioners who make truth-clarifying materials. They use all possible means to search out and persecute them with torture and imprisonment.

By the end of the month, the police were still unable to make her talk, so they sent her to Beijing's Daxing Law Training Centre, which is actually a brainwashing facility. The front building of the brainwashing centre is filled with Falun Gong practitioners abducted from areas all around Beijing. The low building behind is a small-scale detention centre where Dafa practitioners regarded as "hard to deal with" (This means that they are determined and will not give up practising Falun Gong despite torture and brainwashing) are held. Everyday people can hear the police inciting “collaborators” [Former Falun Gong practitioners who have given up Falun Gong due to brainwashing and torture] to beat and try to deceive practitioners, often interrogating practitioners throughout the night and not allowing them to sleep. All night long they play bizarre music, and use twisted understandings of the principles of Falun Gong, creating a terrifying atmosphere. Each Dafa practitioner is monitored by eight officers, who swap every two hours. These police are not allowed to talk to the practitioners. They record Dafa practitioner's every behaviour, such as turning round, standing up, sitting down, opening their eyes, going to the washroom, etc.
Most of the police treat Dafa practitioners savagely, even practitioners who are extremely feeble from long hunger strikes are not permitted to lie down. A thick, dark blind that lets in no sunlight covers the window in each room. Only only a weak yellow lamp lights each room. A filthy, smelly quilt covers the wooden bed. I also had been detained in this centre and suffered all kinds of tortures. I know well the terrorism that goes on inside. But most practitioners, with their steadfast faith, righteous thoughts, and strong will, were able to withstand hunger strikes and break out of this evil den.

Yuan Lin was caught making CD's, and the police therefore regarded her as a key figure. Police Team Leader Li XX from Xinan Labour Camp led several collaborators to cruelly beat, torture and brainwash her. Every night she was only allowed to sleep for one to two hours. Li XX and her cronies beat Yuan Lin with heavy books and caused her face and mouth to swell alarmingly. They punched and kicked her, targeting her private parts. Yuan Lin was often beaten to the ground, unable to move. When Li XX deemed even this punishment insufficient, she rounded up even more brutal collaborators.

Under the direction of this policewoman, the thugs were even more vicious, punching Yuan Lin to the ground and stamping on her leg. Seeing that she still did not yield, Li XX directed her torturers to use their elbows to press the acupuncture points all over Yuan's body. This torture leaves no visible wounds because the injuries are internal. After each session of this torture Yuan was unable even to turn over. They forced her to squat down and lower her head, causing her whole body to swell, her feet so severely that she could not put on her shoes. But the torture continued. One day, as she counted, they slapped her face over one hundred times. Even during the spring festival the collaborators did not stop the torture. Instead, they extorted evidence by even more devious measures. On the first day of the New Year they tried to trick her by saying that her mother and her husband were outside the gate. If only she confessed they would let her go home. Instead of writing a confession, Yuan wrote a note to her family, asking them to leave and informing them that she was righteous and not to worry for her.

In the spring the thugs intensified their persecution. She was beaten to unconsciousness, her heart barely beating. The month of torture had deformed her, and she desperately wanted to leave this evil lair. When she could not bear it anymore she disclosed her name. Police knew right away that she had visited several sites where practitioners produce materials about the truth of Falun Dafa and travelled to many places, so they started even more cruel tortures, keeping her from sleeping or going to the restroom, extorting evidence, forcing her to break her resolve to maintain her right to practice Falun Dafa. She refused to drink any fluids, but did not go on hunger strike. Police would not allow her to go to the restroom for three days. She could not bear it anymore and, against her will, wrote a "repentance letter." After writing it, she cried. She was clear inside that what the collaborators said were all lies. But her longing to leave this evil place caused her to loose her righteous thoughts for that moment.

Actually I too have experienced this kind of savage force-feeding. In my case the police poured several basins of concentrated salt water into me, which I did my best to spit out. I was bound to a chair and forbidden to use the restroom, forcing me to wet myself and the chair cushion, which soaked through and was freezing in the cold weather. The police were angry, spraying me with air freshener, saying how could I treat such a nice room as a restroom, but I kept on with my hunger strike. In the end the police were unable to crush me.

After the police recorded her confession, Yuan Lin refused to betray her fellow practitioners, telling the police only what they already knew. A month later she was transferred to Section 7 of the Beijing Security Department to be detained secretly. She immediately announced to her interrogators that whatever she had written or said against Falun Dafa or Teacher Li were all invalid. She engaged in hunger strikes for as long as several months.

After each of her three hunger strikes she was sent to a Beijing police hospital. In the hospital her hands and feet were kept cuffed to the bed. For two months she had a tube inserted into her nose. For two months her tube was never changed, and she was force-fed and infused everyday. After the tube was finally pulled out, it had turned black. Later she refused to cooperate with the evil people, pulling out the tube and needle. She understood that the evil people have an extreme fear of Dafa practitioners who go on hunger strikes. They use all means to prevent you from hunger striking.

In the hospital, practitioners who refused to cooperate had their hands and feet cuffed to their beds so securely by the police and nurses that they couldn't move an inch. Nasal tubes and catheters were roughly inserted and infusions and force-feedings carried out brutally. In spite of their bonds, some Dafa practitioners managed to pull out the needles and tubes, so their torturers used wide tape to confine practitioners' fingers and toes. Some nurses even beat and pinched practitioners.

Many unyielding Dafa practitioners are detained in a deep basement of the Beijing Police Hospital. Here police have adopted savage methods of force-feeding to deal with these long-term hunger striking practitioners, keeping them alive but causing them to suffer acutely. Police from Section 7 were fed up with Yuan Lin's hunger strikes. When the hospital asked them to pick her up, the police did not come for two months.

At the beginning of June, the police finally took Yuan Lin away for the second time. She was cuffed and had a nasal tube inserted when she arrived at the detention centre of Section 7 located in Changping. Police tried both harsh and gentle ploys to make her eat, but she refused. They cuffed her hands behind her back and force-fed her through the nasal tube. Even when she had diarrhea, the police did not release her from her handcuffs. They ordered other criminals to remove her pants so she could go to the restroom. The criminals cursed her. They tortured her in this way for five days. Then she was sent to the police hospital again. By this time she had become very emaciated, weighing only 40 kilograms (about 90 pounds) for her height of 1.7 meters She trembled just from walking.

In the hospital, the police asked for the phone number of Yuan Lin's daughter, because they feared that they would have no way to notify her family if Yuan Lin died. Yuan Lin had been out of contact with her husband for a long time because of her homeless wandering. Her only daughter had gone to Germany to study. Yuan Lin was detained when she went to appeal on October 26. Because her daughter was deceived by the evil propaganda she did not care about her mother anymore. When her daughter moved to Germany she did not tell Yuan Lin.

Yuan Lin is a very kind-hearted person and considers others everywhere. When she was escorted to the hospital from the detention centre, as soon as she entered the ward she asked fellow practitioners if there was anything she could do to help because they were all cuffed by their hands and feet. Standing with one foot on the ground and another foot cuffed to her bed, she tried her best to wipe the sweat off her fellow practitioners. They could see her emaciated figure and felt sorry for her, asking her not to do it. She said, "Only if I can help you, I will do as much as I can." Every time she heard someone from any room calling for a nurse, she would call aloud as well, even when she was on a hunger strike or water strike and had a dry mouth and tongue.

Some nurses and doctors are very mean to Dafa practitioners. When practitioners were cuffed by their hands and feet and had catheters and infusion tubes, sometimes their private parts were exposed, and the wicked nurses did not cover them. No matter how loudly you called they would not care. If they did come they would curse you first.

Now we do not know where Yuan Lin is or whether she is alive or dead. When she was handcuffed to her bed, she hoped that her daughter, who is in Germany, would come to understand her mother and see through her resentment towards Falun Dafa caused by the lies spread by the Jiang regime-controlled Chinese media.

Here we appeal to all kind-hearted people around the world to extend their hands and hearts to Yuan Lin and other Falun Gong practitioners who are suffering such inhuman tortures. We appeal to you to help stop the evil Jiang's gangs from persecuting Dafa practitioners and their families and to stop them from deceiving all the Chinese people and all the other people in the world.
