On the evening of January 4, 2003, Tongsong Music & Culture Promotion Inc, composed of volunteer Falun Gong practitioners in Sydney, hosted a free variety performance entitled "Music of the Spring" at Marana Auditorium in the Hurstville Centre. Nearly one thousand people from the Hurstville and the Greater Sydney Chinese community watched and enjoyed the show with the theme of "sincerity, friendliness and understanding."
An instrumental ensemble entitled "Spring" opened the performance with a powerful presentation. The show gained rounds upon rounds of warm applause. When a western couple, Mr. and Mrs. Vereshaka who had been to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong in October 2001, performed a Chinese song, "We come for you", the audience was deeply touched and gave their warm applause. In the end, forty people, including practitioners from Tongsong Music & Culture Promotion Inc and some people from Friends of Falun Gong performed a chorus, "Falun Dafa Is Good," pushing the show to a climax.
An expert who started receiving musical training since childhood and had been working in the Shanghai professional musical institution before going abroad highly praised, "China has suppressed Falun Gong for more than three years, but you are still doing so great today, Falun Gong is truly remarkable! Next time if you have this kind of performance, I will definitely help out for your show." A friend learned from chatting during the break that all the programs were composed and performed by Falun Gong practitioners, even the costumes were made by practitioners, he said in surprise, "Really? I thought they were professionals. They sang so well and their costumes are so beautiful! Your performance is really a great success! Falun Gong is truly remarkable!" While watching the show, an elderly gentleman turned around and told his friends, "There is an abundance of capable people among Falun Gong practitioners."
After 10-minute break, the audience watched a 10-minute video program entitled, "The Journey of Falun Dafa" with accompanying music. In the end, a Chinese movie was featured. The show concluded at 11:30 pm.
On our way home, a practitioner said that audience's good response of the performance broke his notions about the show. We realised that people love to see and hear cultural performances, which is a good form of clarifying the truth and allows people to experience the beauty of Dafa and understand Dafa practitioners in a light and cheerful atmosphere.
