Dafa practitioner Ms Guo Qirong , a 59-year-old lady with a college education, was a senior engineer at Emei Mountain Spring Water Factory and a standing committee member of the People's Political Consultative Conference of Emei City,Sichuan Province .
She was illegally held in detention and unjustly persecuted for three years. After being released, she was arrested again on August 17, 2002, and unlawfully sentenced to four years in jail. On December 17, she was suddenly sent to Longquanyi Chuanxi Female Jail in Chengdu City and died the next morning, on December 18. The cause of her death is not yet known. But there is no doubt that she suffered extreme pain and torture before her death.
On August 17, 2002, when Guo Qirong was planning to move from Emei City to live with her only daughter in Meishan City, officers from Leishan City Police Department and the National Security Bureau broke into her home without any legal documents and ransacked it. They kidnapped Guo Qirong and detained her in Jiajiang County Detention Centre because they found Dafa materials in her home. They subsequently transferred her to Emei City Detention Centre several days later, when they "announced" her arrest.
In 1999, Guo Qirong was kidnapped twice and forcibly sent to Leishan City Brainwashing Centre.
In March 2000, she was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labour because she provided the mailing addresses of some relevant State Council departments to a fellow practitioner. She was released in November 2000.
In 2001 she was arrested and taken back to Emei City after she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa with fellow practitioners. As a result, she was sentenced to forced labour until March 2001, and the term was extended by half a year after it had expired. When the new term again expired in September 2001, Guo Qirong was unlawfully sentenced to another half year of forced labour for not giving up her belief and for promoting Falun Dafa in her cell. She was released in March 2002.
In early November 2002, a court sentenced Guo Qirong to four years in jail, claiming she persistently practised Dafa, exposed the deeds of the evildoers, spread Falun Dafa and had Dafa materials in her cell of the labour camp during the detention of nearly three years from 1999 to 2002.
Guo Qirong completely went against the evil people's plan and filed a lawsuit with the Intermediate People's Court of Leishan City according to her constitutional rights. Nothing happened. On December 17, she was suddenly moved to Longquanyi Chuanxi Female Jail in Chengdu City. The next morning, the jail officials claimed she died from a cerebral haemorrhage. There was no independent investigation and this claim is made solely by the jail authorities.
Guo Qirong was awarded many honours over her lifetime and she contributed greatly to her work unit. She was well liked by others, including her neighbours. After she began practising Falun Gong in 1997, her physical condition improved and she became an even better person. After July 20, 1999, she suffered constant persecution, but she never gave up studying the Fa [the teachings of Falun Dafa - Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance] and the exercises. She continuously exposed the evil crimes of the Jiang regime, clarified the truth and promoted Falun Dafa to as many people as possible. Even the guards and police officers who got to know her admitted that she was a good person.
A well-known kind and innocent person was illegally detained, sent to jail and tortured to death only because she believed in Truth, Compassion, Tolerance, and tried to become a truly good person. Kind-hearted people, while we admire her noble actions of speaking out the truth, persisting in her belief in the truth under great pressure, shouldn't we also rationally and clearly realise the truth about this persecution?
