Recently, reading the articles about how practitioners had clarified the truth about Dafa and the persecution to family members, I was reminded of my mother. My mother is a simple and kind person. She has been kind to me since I was little. I have always had a good relationship with her. After I grew up, though we sometimes had different concepts or some disagreements, we are still like good friends. After the persecution began, she had some misunderstandings about Falun Gong at the beginning. However, because she visited me in Germany almost every year, she had the chance to know the truth and read Zhuan Falun. [The main book of Falun Gong] In 2000, when she came to Germany, she said that she thought the book was good after finishing reading it. As she did not quite understand about giving up the attachment of sentimentality at that time, as discussed in the book, her only worry was that I would not pay attention to her anymore after practising Falun Gong, but she relaxed when she found that I treated her just the same as before. She also learned the five sets of exercises.
In June 2002, she came to Germany again. Because she could not study the Fa in China, she had some questions about the principles of Dafa, even though she had got rid of her negative misunderstandings of Dafa long ago. Although I was quite engaged in work Dafa for clarifying the truth about Dafa, I still spent much time patiently sharing and communicating with her. Thus, she herself realised that she should study the Fa more. As a result, without my reminding her, she studied one lecture of Zhuan Falun every day. Compared to her previous visits to Germany, I could clearly feel that the selfish sentimental concerns I had towards her had become much less, and been replaced by a much greater, broader feeling of compassion. The result was that I was not anxious anymore when she had any doubts about Dafa; instead, I could fully understand why she would have doubting thoughts. So I could calmly and patiently explain to her till she understood them.
We even went to Northern Europe together to send forth righteous thoughts [using upright thoughts to purify oneself and the surroundings]. There I read “Touring North America to Teach the Fa” to her. I often talked to her automatically, hoping that the Fa of higher principles would not cause misunderstandings for her. However, my mother not only had no obstacle in understanding Dafa, but also sent righteous thoughts with us. Once she told me that she seemed to go back to the time of my childhood, which was the best time in her life. At that time, we, mother and daughter, could understand each other from the heart, and trust each other deeply without any misunderstandings and disagreements in our hearts.
I also felt that my mother and I became closer and closer again. When I was little, I did not have any concepts, so I could communicate with my mother without any obstacles. However, after growing up, I inevitably learned all kinds of notions. Sometimes I had disagreements or a bad attitude towards her. But cultivation has helped me to break away from many concepts. I can see things from different perspectives. So I do not insist my own concepts, and measure others with my own concepts anymore. I have learned to understand others better and from their own perspectives, including my family members.
In the past, because my mother was worried about my safety, she did not quite agree with my joining activities for Dafa. However, this time, she automatically clarified the truth to the tourists from Mainland China. She told them how she was cheated by the lies of the propaganda, and how she knew the truth.
When I read again the phrase, “full of great aspirations while minding minor details,” in Master Li’s article, “Sage” [Essentials for Further Advancement I] at the present, I feel it is a very high requirement for Dafa practitioners. As our Gong [cultivation energy] should reach from the infinite microscopic level to the infinite macroscopic level, we should do well in the world in all aspects from the magnificent deeds of Fa-rectification to the minor matters of being thoughtful and concerned for our family members. All these are part of our paths we must walk righteously.
