Former Engineer Mr. Chang Shi with the Jilin City Telecommunications Bureau Arrested

Mr. Chang Shi, his wife, and their 19-year-old daughter were arrested in Jilin City on August 9th, 2012. Mr. Chang's wife, Ms. Zhang Jingdong, was terribly abused while she was in police custody. Within just 10 days she was in critical condition. She was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. Mr. Chang's arrest has now been officially approved. His wife and daughter have returned home.

Officers waiting in front of his apartment building arrested Mr. Chang around noon on August 9th. Participating in the arrest were officers from Changjiang Police Station and the Changhong Neighbourhood. They beat him, then dragged him into a police car. About eight other officers went upstairs to his apartment and arrested his wife, Ms. Zhang, and daughter, Ms. Chang Huiying.

Ms. Zhang was tied up and brought downstairs. More than 30 people standing in front of the apartment building witnessed the proceedings. Ms. Zhang told the crowd, “I practise Falun Gong. We are good people. We didn't commit any crime.”

The police proceeded to ransack their home and confiscate their valuables, including cash. A witness said that police officers confiscated many items from Mr. Chang's home. In fact, they took so many things that it took them quite a while to get all of them into their car. The police left Mr. Chang's home in disarray, and they didn't even bother to lock the door when they finally drove off.

That afternoon, the police took Mr. Chang to the Criminal Police Division and interrogated him. He was then detained in the Jilin City Detention Centre.

Ms. Zhang was severely abused in police custody. She was in critical condition in about 10 days. According to the medical staff present at the time at the Jilin City Central Hospital, several police officers brought her into the hospital on the morning of August 23rd. Ms. Zhang was having difficulty breathing and had the symptoms of a heart attack and stroke.

After working on her for 30 minutes, the doctors ordered that Ms. Zhang remain hospitalized for further treatment. However, the police officers pushed Ms. Zhang out of the emergency room with IVs still in both of her arms and an oxygen tube in her nose. She was put into an ambulance escorted by the police and drove away. Ms. Zhang was then taken to Changchun Forced Labour Camp.

The couple's 19-year-old daughter, Ms. Chang Huiying, was incarcerated in the Shahezi Brainwashing Centre.

Ms. Zhang and her daughter have returned home after enduring severe physical torture and mental torment.

We recently learned that Mr. Chang Shi has been officially arrested. His family received a notification concerning his arrest from the Fengman Police Department.
