Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Shan Muzhi from Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, never returned after leaving her home around 6 p.m. on February 25th, 2013.

Her family called the police department the next day to make inquiries and was told by an officer to “go look for her at the Hejiashan Crematorium!” The family was also told that she died of a heart attack. When the police realized, as they were taking her to the hospital, that she had already died, they decided to take her to the crematorium instead.

Irregular police behaviour

According to reports, two police cars drove to the Hejiashan Crematorium on the morning of February 26th, and the body of a woman was lifted out of one of them. The corpse was not taken to be cremated right away, but instead it was put in the cold room. Another group of riot police arrived soon after and stood guard inside and at the gate to the crematorium. They didn't leave until the early evening.

Why were so many police officers involved? There were some officers who said that a Falun Gong practitioner died of shock when she saw the police while she was posting materials exposing the persecution. The crematorium staff said that the body was not registered with a name, that it was a female who committed suicide after being raped.

When Ms. Shan left her home around 6 p.m. on February 25th, she told her husband to heat some water so she could take a bath when she returned. Around 8 p.m. that night, Ms. Shan was reported to the police for posting materials near Jiujiang Technical Secondary School not far from her home. The Liujiatang Police Station and Lushan District Police Department each sent officers to make an arrest, and, according to an eyewitness, Ms. Shan fell down when she was apprehended.

Many uncertainties in Ms. Shan's case

Why did the police take her directly to the crematorium? How did they know for sure that she was dead? Did she die in the car? Didn't they need a death certificate?

Why was it necessary for two police cars to escort her body to the crematorium? What were the riot police trying to prevent? Were they afraid that the family would have the body evaluated or that the truth would leak out?

If Ms. Shan died of shock when she was arrested, then why didn't her body arrive at the crematorium, which is only 15 miles away, until the next morning?

Why did the crematorium staff say that it was the body of a female who committed suicide after being raped?

A similar incident

Another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. He Chunhua, from the same area in Jiujiang City as Ms. Shan, has been missing for three years. Ms. He, about 70 years of age, has been missing since she left home on the evening of January 12th, 2010. When Ms. He's family went to the police department, an officer yelled at them and said, “We have been wanting to lock her up in prison for a long time.”

According to a report published on the Minghui website on March 12th, 2012, Ms. He had been arrested and detained for 14 days. When the family went to the police station to make inquires about her, they were told that the police didn't know where she was. Up to this day, there has been no further news on Ms. He and it is suspected that she was murdered. CCP officials and police have inquired among the local practitioners in an attempt to find out how much they knew about Ms. He's situation.
