Ms. Hu Yanmin is a 55-year-old factory owner from Xishi District, Yingkou City, Liaoning Province. She never hesitates to help those in need and is well regarded by her family, friends, and employees.
Like millions of others in China, Ms. Hu has been persecuted for her belief in Falun Gong. Below is her personal account of what recently happened to her.
Yingkou Police Broke into My Home to Arrest Me
I was tending to my elderly mother in my second-floor apartment, located in my factory building, when police pried open a window and jumped inside. This happened around 10 a.m. on September 28th, 2012. The intruders included Yingkou City Police Department's Domestic Security Division head Zhang Ji and his deputy Liu Sen, as well as Xishi District Domestic Security Division head Jiang Mingfu and officers from the Wutaizi Police Station.
They turned my home upside down and confiscated my computer, printer, more than 1,000 yuan1 in cash, and my Falun Gong books. Despite my mother's pleas, they took me away.
My Family Forced to Pay 30,000 Yuan to “Buy” My Release
Around 4pm that afternoon, Jiang Mingfu and Wutaizi Police Station agents took me to Shachang Hospital for an examination. Even though my blood pressure measured 240/130, they drove me to the local detention centre, hoping to incarcerate me there.
During the routine checkup for new arrivals, the centre doctor found my blood pressure still at 240/130. As a result, the police's plot to get me detained was foiled.
Jiang Mingfu refused to back down and told the driver, “Take her to the clinic next to Wutaizi Police Station. If her blood pressure is normal, we'll try the detention centre again.” To their dismay, for the third straight time my blood pressure still measured at 240/130.
The police had to release me. However, before letting me go, they demanded 30,000 yuan from my family. They did not give them any receipt.
My Refusal to Sign the Indictment Led to Constant Police Harassment
Unable to locate me, officers from the Wutaizi Police Station repeatedly harassed my family in February 2013, pressuring them to get me to sign a document at Xishi District Procuratorate.
In order to lessen the pressure on my family, I went to the Procuratorate. I was shocked to find out that the police had indicted me and plotted to put me on trial. I firmly declined to sign the indictment papers.
The police station later made numerous phone calls to my home to harass and intimidate me. Listening to their voice messages, I really felt that the police were no different from bandits. How could law-enforcement officers so blatantly violate the law?
The police also constantly called or visited my factory, trying to monitor my whereabouts, which caused great fear in the hearts of my family and employees. Each and every time, I managed to avoid coming face to face with the police.
I Urge the Perpetrators to Stop Doing Evil
I have never done anything harmful from the time I was young. Just because I am a Falun Gong practitioner, the police dared to break into my home and arrest me. Unable to get me detained, they extorted 30,000 yuan from my family before unwillingly releasing me.
Were these police officers serving the people or violating the law?
Falun Gong practitioners live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. They are kind, sincere, and reputable. If everyone else behaved the same way, there would be no need for police.
On the other hand, many Chinese government officials are rotten to the core. They only pay lip service that they are serving people, when, in fact, they are extremely corrupt. No wonder more and more of them are getting arrested. Besides their greed, they also share another common characteristic—that is, they are chief culprits in the persecution of Falun Gong.
Those who persecute Falun Gong have come to a dead end. I urge Yingkou officials and police to stop doing evil right away, so as to secure a brighter future for themselves.
