Mr. Zhao Gangxian Arrested and His Bedridden Wife Died from Lack of Care

Mr. Zhao Gangxian, 65, was arrested by officers from the Enyang District Police Department in Bazhong City on the afternoon of October 8th, 2013. His wife had been bitten by a poisonous snake and was confined to bed. She passed away two weeks later because her husband was not there to care for her.

One Arrest Leads to Another's Death

A false accusation was lodged against Mr. Zhao at Team Three, Village Two, Jiuzhen Town. The Enyang District Police Department then ordered team leader Zhou Hongbing to arrest him. Zhou and several police officers went to Village Two and asked Xiang Guangyi, the director, for ways to break into Mr. Zhao’s home.

Mr. Zhao’s wife, Ms. Li Yueying, was confined to bed because she had been bitten by a poisonous snake. Her legs and stomach were swollen, she hadn’t been able to eat for several days, and her condition was critical. The couple's children live out of town, so Mr. Zhao had to take care of her. Mr. Zhao is detained in the Bazhou District Detention Centre. Ms. Li passed away at the age of 61.

Officials Arrest Practitioners to Get Promoted

It is rumored that Enyang District Police Department officers framed Mr. Zhao to get promoted. Enyang Town was upgraded to district status in February 2013. There are 24 towns under its jurisdiction. Jiuzhen Town was reassigned to the Enyang District from the Bazhou District. The Enyang Town Police Station was also upgraded to police department status. The police eagerly sought to add to their "reputations" by arresting Mr. Zhao. His wife was of no concern to them.

During the funeral for Mr. Zhao's wife, the police, in collaboration with Xiang Guangyi, went to where Mr. Zhao used to reside and pressured everyone tell them whether Mr. Zhao had given them Falun Gong materials exposing the persecution, whether he had talked to them about the practice or played a video for them, etc.

Background

Before Mr. Zhao Gangxian started to practise Falun Gong, he suffered from several different illnesses, such as gastritis. He had problems keeping food down. He couldn't see well, and he couldn't lift his left arm without pain.

Because of the pain, he had a bad temper and was irritable and depressed. He was often in a bad mood, and children were afraid of him. Fortunately he started to practise Falun Gong. Three days after he read the Falun Gong book Zhuan Falun, he could see clearly. He read the Falun Gong books, did the exercises, and lived by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Within a short time he returned to good health.

His wife saw all this and also started to practise Falun Gong. She used to be very overbearing, and her neighbours were frightened of her. After learning Falun Gong, she stopped fighting and cursing. Very often, she helped her neighbours and the seniors in the village, including chopping wood, transplanting seedlings, and so on.
