73-Year-old Paralysed after Fall in Detention Centre, Chongqing Police Continue to Persecute Her

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xiao Shaogui, 73, was one of three practitioners from the Yongchuan District who were arrested and detained in May. Two weeks after she was sent to the local detention centre, she had a bad fall and was paralysed.

Ms. Xiao was sent to the Yongchuan District Detention Centre with another practitioner, Ms. Li Yuansu, after they were arrested for talking to people about Falun Gong on May 17th, 2014.

According to an insider, the security camera showed that Ms. Xiao fell because of the slippery floor. Afterwards, she couldn't move.

Zhong Ke, the Domestic Security Division head of Yongchuan District, informed Ms. Xiao's family on June 3rd and told them to take her home.

However, when her family was carrying her out of the cell and before they reached the gate, they were stopped. Zhong Ke ordered guards to carry Ms. Xiao back to the cell, under the pretext that proper procedures had not been completed.

Ms. Xiao is still being held in the detention centre.

Ms. Li Yuansu has been on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and has become extremely weak.

Practitioner Ms. Xu Xiaoqin is being held in Cell No. 3 of the detention centre since she was arrested on May 1st, 2014.

Several practitioners in the Yongchuan District have been harassed and arrested since April.

The district government, the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, and the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) collaborated to carry out the arrests, saying that a-month-long Tea Culture Tourism Festival and the Fourth Economic and Trade Fair would be held in the Yongchuan District in May.
