Ms. Yu Zaorong, a 70-year-old farmer from Xintian Village in Wuhan City, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2012 and held at the Hubei Women's Prison. She developed severe heart problems and was released on medical parole.
Despite her illness, Ms. Yu was harassed and monitored at home. The police ransacked her home during the first half of 2014 and confiscated her Falun Gong books.
Because of the long term persecution Ms. Yu suffered physical and mental harm. She passed away on January 3rd, 2015.
Arrested for Talking about Falun Gong
Ms. Yu was arrested on March 11th, 2012, for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong in the Caidian District. She was taken to the Wuhan No. 1 Detention Centre and secretly sentenced to three years in prison in September 2012. She was then taken to the Wuhan Women's Prison.
According to other detainees, Ms. Yu was the oldest among the inmates. She was also tortured, which ruined her health.
She was rushed to Hanyang Hospital on March 28th, 2013, for emergency care and was diagnosed with a heart attack. She was released on medical parole because the officials wanted to avoid being held responsible for her illness and potential death.
Officers from the Houguanhu Police Station then continued to harass her, often monitoring her and harassing her by phone.
About 10 officers from the Caidian Domestic Security Division and the police station ransacked her home in the first half of 2014. They confiscated more than a dozen Falun Gong books.
