Bavarian Broadcasting (also known as Bayerischer Rundfunk), a major German radio and television network based in Munich, recently reported how people have benefited from the practice of Falun Gong in Nuremberg and other parts of Germany.
“At first glance, it looks like morning exercise. But when Falun Gong practitioners do the physical exercises, it means more, for example, energy flow,” wrote the article published on July 12, 2016.
The report said that practitioners meet in Nuremberg city park at 10 a.m. every Saturday just behind the Neptune Fountain. “From a small white MP3 player lying in the grass comes the voice of Master Li [founder of Falun Gong].” Ten men and women sit in a circle to do the meditation following the voice.
This is one of the five sets of exercises, explained Sigrid Krammer, 47, who comes with her husband to the park every week. Krammer began to practice Falun Gong in late 90's, shortly after the meditation practice was introduced to Europe. She said, according to ancient Chinese philosophy, the body is connected with the cosmos through pervasive energy.
Take the fourth set of exercise as one example, she said, it is called “Falun Cosmic Orbit”, which opens up all the energy channels and purifies the body.
Falun Gong improves physical health, and it is beyond that. “Falun Gong gives you energy and can heal your illnesses. But it is not just for healing... it is cultivation,” said Volker Ruprecht.
“Originated in China in 1990s, Falun Gong is one form of meditation qigong.” Similar to Buddhism and Taoism, it is rooted in traditional Chinese culture and has attracted more than 100 million people worldwide.
“Falun Gong emphasizes self-cultivation based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance,” the report said. “The purpose is to generate positive energy, purify the human body, and achieve a higher level of existence.”
However, “it is brutally persecuted in China because the communist views it as a threat.”
As the second largest city in the state of Bavaria, Nuremberg is well-known for the trials against criminals who participated in the Holocaust and other war crimes.
Many have linked the Nuremberg trials to the lawsuit against former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong. At least 200,000 criminal complaints have been filed since last May against Jiang for genocide and crimes against humanity. Jiang started the nationwide suppression of Falun Gong in 1999, including the forced organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners.
