I am writing to express my concern about the imprisonment of Dr. Charles Li, an American citizen who is currently detained in Yangzhou City, China.
Chinese authorities arrested Dr. Li on January 22, 2003 upon his arrival in southern China on charges of sabotaging television and radio broadcast systems. After over a month in captivity, the Chinese government has provided no evidence to justify Dr. Li’s abrupt arrest. Dr. Li has denied the charges brought against him, and these claims seem highly unlikely as Dr. Li was living in California during the time of his television interference. He maintains that he was arrested solely because of his practice of Falun Gong.
I urge you to do everything possible to ensure Dr. Li’s safe and immediate release. Thank you for your time.
