On April 5 and 6, practitioners from Montreal and Ottawa gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy in Canada to peacefully protest the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. In the past month, reports came of 70 more practitioners being persecuted to death and the number of Falun Gong practitioners killed by the Chinese government has reached 648. The protest also called upon the Chinese government to unconditionally release US citizen Charles Li, who has been detained for over two months. In cold wind and snow, practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts [
thinking upright righteous thoughts to purify oneself and one's surroundings] and demonstrated the Falun Gong exercises. Practitioners commented that "As long as Falun Gong practitioners are not released and the persecution is not stopped, Falun Gong practitioners' peaceful appeal will continue."
