To the Director of
Daxing Xian, Xinan Nuzi Laojiao Nongchang
(Yuan Tiantanghe Nongchang)
Beijing 102609
People's Republic of China

Berlin, 31st March 2003

Dear Sir,

As a member of the German Parliament and as Spokesman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid, my attention has been drawn to the fate of Falun Gong practitioners in China in general, and to the case of Ms. Xiong Wei in particular. I am writing to you to express my deep concern about the imprisonment of more than 100,000 Falun Gong practitioners in forced labour camps (such as the camp you are the director of) and the confirmed death toll of more than 630. Since the People's Republic of China has signed the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, I am urging you to make a contribution so that human rights are no longer violated in China.

Ms. Xiong Wei has lived in Berlin, Germany for many years and has worked for a Chinese German enterprise. She was detained while distributing information on Falun Gong on January 5th 2002 in Beijing and has since been brought to Daxing Xian, Sinan Nuzi Laojiao Nongchang. Since Ms. Xiong Wei has only peacefully exercised her rights to freedom of expression and belief, I am urging you to do everything possible to ensure her safe and immediate release. Moreover I ask you to provide me with information about the moves you intend to make in this direction.

Yours sincerely

[Signed by a German MP]
