During the "Two Party Meetings," around 7:00 a.m. on February 27, 2003, as Ms. Liang Hongguang was preparing to leave for work, two police officers from Rongcheng City Police Department went to her home and tried to arrest her without any warrant or legal procedure. Liang Hongguang didn't want to cooperate with this illegal procedure by the authorities and tried to escape from the toilet window. Unfortunately, she was injured in the process and she died two hours later.
Afterwards, the Rongcheng City government tried to avoid responsibility and appease public resentment, so it sent officials to talk to Liang Hongguang's family and asked them to cremate Liang's body. They promised to pay for all funeral expenses. They blocked the news and publicly claimed Liang committed suicide. Liang's friend said, "How malicious! If the police didn't attempt an illegal arrest, how could it happen?"
In China, as long as the persecution continues, this tragedy will not be the last.
