On Saturday, May 31, 2003, Dafa practitioners from states of Missouri, Ohio, Indiana and other areas in central US regions and Chicago local practitioners gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate to send righteous thoughts in close proximity to clear out the dark, dense haze before the public trial of Jiang.
The temperature dropped more than a dozen degrees. Dark clouds, cold wind and dark haze could not hamper Dafa practitioners' righteous thoughts and righteous actions.
A woman who was passing by with her husband walked across the street from the side of the Chinese Consulate and said to us, "I support you. I've seen you staying here for an entire day. I'm a Christian, and I'm not a Falun Gong practitioner, but I support you." After saying this, she was still reluctant to leave us, though her husband had been waiting for her on the opposite sidewalk for quite a while. Finally, she hugged the practitioners and said goodbye.
Two young men were attracted by the pure field of Falun Gong and learned a lot of facts about Falun Dafa from practitioners. Some passersby wanted to learn to practise Falun Gong on the spot. Some people tried to put money into the hands of practitioners who were doing the sitting meditation, but the practitioners politely declined. We do appreciate the kindness of the world's people.
There were also some people with malicious intentions wearing sunglasses and carrying cameras who came out of the Chinese Consulate to take photos of us.
In the afternoon, the sun penetrated dark clouds and shone brilliantly over us.
In conjunction with Dafa practitioners in other areas in Canada, practitioners in Calgary and Edmonton jointly held a 24-hour hunger strike appeal in front of the Chinese Consulate in Calgary on June 1, 2003, condemning China's illegal arrest of American citizen Dr. Charles Li. The hunger strike appeal began on the afternoon of May 31, and continued until June 1. The practitioners protested China's illegal acts and demanded the Chinese government to immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Charles Li.
At noon on June 3, 2003, San Francisco Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese Consulate to call for an urgent rescue of Charles Li.
A US Consulate official in Shanghai informed Charles Li's fiancée Ms. Yeong-ching Foo that Charles Li began a hunger strike on May 27 in Nanjing Prison. Since May 31, he has been transferred to a hospital inside the Nanjing Prison and was force-fed.
In the last three plus years, Chinese police have applied brutal tortures against Falun Gong practitioners as a means of persecution. Force-feeding in Chinese prisons has caused great danger to prisoners' lives. It has been verified that among 720 cases of Falun Gong practitioners' deaths from torture and abuse in Chinese prisons, 74, or more than 10%, died from force-feeding while on hunger strike.
Today is the fourth day since Charles Li was force-fed. Upon hearing the news, Falun Gong practitioners immediately arrived at the outside of Chinese Consulate, strongly protesting the Chinese government's mistreatment and demanding Charles' immediate release.
The media including NTD TV Station, Epoch Times and Voice of the Bay Area came to cover the activity.
