My Experiences of Clarifying the truth to Chinese People. (UK Fa Conference 2003)

Greetings Master. Greetings fellow practitioners.

I would like to share with you my experiences of clarifying the truth to Chinese people.

Before I practised Falun Dafa I didn’t know much about China. I had the impression as a small boy that it was a land of magic with dragons and people who could fly and perform miracles. It wasn’t until I practised Falun Dafa that I met and got to know some Chinese people. The lies that the regime in China have used to poison so many innocent Chinese people are despicable. When I look at how many benefits I’ve received from practising Falun Dafa, I feel heart-broken that so many good people in China are not able to know the truth and may even have bad thoughts about Dafa, due to the relentless propaganda. I would like to share with you one way I have found to let many precious Chinese people learn the truth about Falun Dafa.

I often go to stay with another practitioner and in the area where he lives there are over 1,000 Chinese students. All of them have come to the UK to learn the truth about Falun Dafa. But the number of practitioners in this area is really very small. We used to go into the town centre and try to talk to as many Chinese as possible and give them a leaflet. If we were lucky we would see 20 Chinese students in one day. This was such a small fraction of the enormous number of Chinese people in the area: We were wondering how we could successfully meet and clarify the truth to more of them.

One Saturday after we had been handing out leaflets in the town centre, we were on the way home in the car. I saw a Chinese person in the distance and I asked the other practitioner to pull over so that I could go and give them a leaflet. The Chinese person was happy to receive the leaflet and as I got back into the car, the driver suggested that if we drove around looking for Chinese students in this way we would see far more than we had done in the city centre.

This method of truth clarification turned out to be very successful and I named it “the driveby”. We would go out with lots of VCDs and booklets and drive through the town. Whenever we spotted a Chinese person, the driver would pull over and I would run over and hand them a leaflet or a VCD. For a start, the other practitioner felt a little unsettled because he was driving and I was always the one who got to talk to the Chinese people. However, the driver soon realised that he had forgotten the importance of righteous thoughts. He started to send forth righteous thoughts whilst I was clarifying the truth. This had a great effect. In just a couple of hours we gave out over 60 VCDs and booklets.

When we first began the drivebys, the atmosphere in the car was quite tense; the driver always seemed unhappy at the way I did things. This was because when I approached the students I would hand them the material and say “This is for the international students.” The driver thought I was being dishonest and leaving the student a little confused. At the time I did not agree, but looking back I can see that I was quite fearful of the student rejecting the information. So I would approach the student and say “this information is for the international students” then I would quickly run away! However, later I had an experience that made me realise this was not a correct way to do things.

One time, I gave a booklet to a Chinese student explaining that it was for the international students. As I got back in the car the driver told me that as soon as I had turned my back, the Chinese student had thrown the booklet into the bin. I couldn’t believe it as she seemed so happy to take the information. But of course when she actually took it, she didn’t know what it was about. So I got out of the car, went back over to her and said to her “I practise Falun Dafa and the information I gave you was about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China”. I was honest and I opened my heart with compassion; my fear had vanished and I only wanted to save her. She hesitated for a second and then began to ask me some questions about Falun Dafa. My righteous side seemed to have all the answers and I was able to clarify the truth behind many of the lies that she had heard.

From that experience I realised that when I approach a Chinese student I should be truthful and tell them that the leaflet or VCD is about the persecution of Falun Dafa in China. If the person has any bad thoughts about Dafa they will then tell me about them and then I can rationally eliminate these lies with the truth. I started to use this approach and it worked very well. The most popular thing that I heard is “I don’t believe in Falun Dafa.” I would say “That’s ok. The information I’m giving you is about the persecution of Falun Dafa in China. After reading this you will understand the true situation.” At this point they would either take the material or tell me some of the lies that they had heard and were stopping them from having good thoughts about Dafa. Many of them brought up the subject of the staged self-immolation. I would say “Falun Dafa is practised by one hundred million people in 60 countries worldwide. I am also a Falun Dafa practitioner.” Then with the use of the booklet I would explain that the self-immolation on Tiananmen Square was a set-up. This process would very quickly eliminate the poison in the sentient being’s mind because the persecution is based on lies and what I said was the truth. I really felt the power of Master’s words in the poem “Hurry Up and Tell Them”:

“As Dafa disciples tell people the facts,
Its like sharp swords shooting out together from their mouths,
Shredding apart the rotten demons lies.”

As we continued with our drivebys, things got easier and easier. We learned where the best roads to find Chinese students are and when is the best time to find them there. Soon we were encountering Chinese students who we had already met. They would think it was quite funny seeing me dash over with a big smile on my face and then dashing back to the car. They could see that we were always in good spirits and I felt that even this was helping to get rid of their bad thoughts about Dafa.

Many of the students we hadn’t met before would say they had seen the VCD or leaflet at their friend’s house. Master told us at the Midwest U.S. Fa conference in June this year: “Your every word, every flyer, every keystroke, every telephone call, and every letter is having a huge impact. Beings that have come to understand the facts become mobile media, and they too clarify the facts. It’s had a big impact on society.” If one Chinese person has a clear view that Falun Dafa is good he or she will have a great effect on the other people they come into contact with. We could feel that we had created a positive atmosphere in the area through our efforts to clarify the truth to the Chinese students. Although this method seemed kind of unconventional when we first started, we should also look at a tool’s effectiveness as well as its appearance. These drivebys really have had a great effect on the Chinese people and are also an important task in Fa-Rectification.

Before I felt that I was blocked from truly fulfilling my role in clarifying the truth to the Chinese people. What stopped me from being more proactive in going and talking to more Chinese was the attachment to fame. When I was in Washington for the Fa Conference last month, I felt pained that I wasn’t in any big meetings or that I wasn’t involved in some big project. I wanted to feel important and that my role in the Fa rectification was very significant. I openly told practitioners about my attachment. I would often neglect going to see Chinese people because I was too busy looking for more glamorous ways to do Fa-Rectification. When I came back from Washington I realised what an important step it is in the Fa rectification to be amongst the Chinese population in the UK. Not just doing Hong Fa from a distance but giving the sentient beings a chance to really know who we are and to see that we are good people. This is incredibly powerful and destroys the evil in massive amounts. We have nothing to hide; let’s become even more proactive and touch the hearts of all sentient beings in the UK and around the world.
