On July 16 2003, while he was out running errands, Falun Dafa practitioner Gong Suliang of Suining City, in Sichuan Province, was rudely interrogated by two local policemen, one of whose names is Han Chengzuo. They discovered a Falun Dafa book in Gong Suliang's possessions and arrested him. Gong Suliang was sent to Lingquansi Detention Centre for one month.

On August 16, Baosheng Village Police released Gong Suliang from the detention centre, but continued to hold him illegally at Baosheng Police Station. The police then notified Gong's family to bring a ludicrous sum of 2,000 Yuan in exchange for his release [The average monthly income for an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan], in effect both kidnapping him and demanding that his family pay ransom for his release.

Gong Suliang's family refused to cooperate with the two kidnappers. On August 20, the policemen took Gong Suliang to Wujiawan Prison. There was insufficient evidence for a trial, so the policemen fabricated some documents, and on August 23, 2003, Gong Suliang was sentenced to one and a half years in Mianyang Xinhua Forced Labour Camp.

Local police have tortured more than twenty Falun Dafa practitioners from Baosheng Village, and many more have been illegally sentenced to forced labour camps. Falun Dafa practitioner Qiao Minglian had been home from the labour camp for less than six months when she was again arrested from her home and sentenced to two years of forced labour. Qiao Minglian remains imprisoned at Nanmusi Forced Labour Camp for women.

[The "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.]
