Falun Gong, a practice of mind and body, appeared at Rauma market place on Tuesday. Two Finnish and two Chinese practitioners were there to tell people about the brutal persecution that practitioners in China are suffering.

“One of my friends was imprisoned three times because she practises Falun Gong. In March she disappeared and I don’t know where she is now”, says Chinese Falun Gong practitioner Jiang Hong, who now lives in Finland.

Chinese Embassies around the world are also monitoring Falun Gong, a practitioner explains. If Hong goes back to China, she believes she will be arrested at the airport.

“My friends have warned me not to go back to China, and my mother repeatedly says that I cannot speak about Falun Gong on the phone or write about it in letters.”

Falun Gong has been in the news for years now. People have been practising Falun Gong for three years in Jyväskylä city.

Falun Gong consists of five sets of exercises, which have highly positive effects on health. Whoever wants to practise can do so, and one does not need to join any association or group. There is also profound knowledge about life included in Falun Gong.

In China, Falun Gong has a tradition of hundreds of years. Mr. Li Hongzhi brought it to the public in 1992. Falun Gong is based on books that are compiled from Mr. Li’s lectures. The books have been translated into Finnish and they are available from the Internet.

Falun Gong is practised in more than sixty countries. It has no organisational system.

Practitioners are persecuted in China

Falun Gong was banned in China by the former president Jiang Zemin in 1999. Practising or spreading information about Falun Gong is forbidden at the cost of severe punishment.

The former President thought that too many people were practising Falun Gong, and he wanted everybody to quit. Those who do not agree are sent to prison. People are being forcefully brainwashed into thinking that Falun Gong is not good.

Hong doesn’t want to quit practising Falun Gong because it is very good for her health. In her heart she wants to spread information about Falun Gong. Many people in China refuse to quit practising and are tortured for doing so.

Numerous governments and human rights organisations from different countries have appealed to the Chinese government to end this persecution. Hundreds of people are known to have been killed. Thousands have been arrested and tortured.
