Since Jiang's regime started its cruel persecution of Falun Gong in July of 1999, Falun Gong practitioners in San Francisco have been holding peaceful appeals in front of the Chinese Consulate every day, asking Jiang's regime to stop the persecution and trying to tell people the facts about Falun Gong.
In the morning of January 26, Falun Gong practitioners as always brought banners saying, "Falun Dafa is good" and "Bring Jiang to Justice" to the consulate. They noticed several police cars and fire engines in front of the consulate. Policemen and staff of the consulate were safeguarding the entrance. One policeman who knew that Falun Gong practitioners come to the consulate every day informed them that another group of protesters were in conflict with the consulate and they were trying to appease the two groups. Considering the chaos, the policeman asked if Falun Gong practitioners would temporally cancel their own appeal that day. To make matters easier for the police, the practitioners agreed. However, the practitioners didn't leave right away and waited at a distance.
The problem was resolved after a little while and the practitioners approached again, asking the police if they could hold their peaceful appeal. Upon learning that they were Falun Gong practitioners, a plainclothes police officer said right away, "Your activities are always peaceful. We are in favour of you and we trust you. Just do what you want to do." Some of the consular staff and dozens of onlookers witnessed this exchange.
