In August 1999, the program "Common People" broadcast on a Liaoning Province TV Station falsely reported that Chang Xiufang divorced her husband Song Yongqing because she practiced Falun Gong. I am Chang Xiufang. That report was false. Let me tell you the true story.
In May 1994, I met Song Yongqing and we were married in February 1995. After we got married, his violent nature became obvious. He got drunk frequently and often beat and cursed me. We began to fight on the ninth day of our marriage. By June, our fighting had become so violent that we began the divorce process. Our marriage was less than 100 days old and was being dissolved. It often seemed that he wanted to beat me to death. I could no longer tolerate the abuse and wanted a divorce but he refused. He gathered together our parents, officials from our work units, and friends to persuade me. Song swore many times in front of many people that he would no longer beat or curse me. He knelt down on the ground and begged for my forgiveness with tears running down his cheeks. My heart was softened and I forgave him for everything, sincerely hoping that he could truly become better. However, my hopes died shortly thereafter. I gradually formed the idea of suicide, thinking everything would be over when I die. I lived in this shadow day after day, miserably.
In July 1996, I heard that Falun Gong was very good and began practicing so that I could improve my health and broaden my mind. I heard that people who used to fight stopped fighting and quarrelling couples became harmonious. I started practicing Falun Gong. Through studying Falun Dafa, I came to understand the true meaning of life, the reason for being a good person and many things that I did not understand before. Gradually, my heart brightened and smiles came back to my face. Our quarrelling gradually dissipated. "This Falun Gong is so good," said Song, "but I could not practice it." Song also said that he would ask the wife of his friend to practice Falun Gong as well.
After I practiced Falun Gong for a while, the people around me started to accept it. I became more diligent in my cultivation. Every day, I scheduled my time conscientiously. At work, I did my job well. At home, I actively did all the chores. Song did not do any chores at home and of course stopped complaining. I stayed busy every day but I didn't feel tired, instead, I felt very fulfilled. Even so, Song often still tried to find fault with me and curse me. Whenever this happened, I would think: "This is a test for me, I must bear it, I must bear it." One time, Song said: "You truly can tolerate what I couldn't." I smiled.
Unfortunately, Song took advantage of the tolerance of a Dafa practitioner and committed bad deeds without restraint. He often came back home past midnight and sometimes not at all. Whenever I asked him, he would be very annoyed and asked me not to interfere with his business. Time and again he ignored my persuasion and covered up his deeds with all kind of excuses. One night in June 1996, Song told me: "I am sorry, let's divorce." I asked: "Why?" He said: "Since we have to divorce no matter what, let me tell you all about it. I have had an affair with Xiao Wang for quite a long time. I can not get rid of her. She asked me to divorce you. I don't want to divorce. But I could not bear the consequences if she exposes our relationship. I won't be able to remain a teacher." Song teaches physical education at the second high school. I asked: "What does she do? How old is she?" He said: "She is a third year student, about 16 or 17 years old. She has already had one abortion and now she is pregnant again."
I could not believe what had happened. Song asked Xiao Wang to our house. I knew clearly what had really happened. With great patience, I told them my understanding of the principles of how to be a good person, what a student is supposed to do, what a teacher is supposed to do and how youth should be spent. Both cried under my compassionate thoughts. They were determined to act better and that they would terminate their relationship. To save this young lady, I went to her home to talk to her mother several times. Her mother was very thankful and promised to work with me to stop their relationship. Several months passed however, and the relationship between Song and Wang continued.
In March 1999, Song asked me again for a divorce. I thought, our relationship may have to come to an end and maybe it should be ended. We went to court. I signed my name on a blank mediation form. He could fill anything in the form as he wished. Thus, we divorced on the basis of incompatibility in our relationship. After the divorce, Song moved, fearing that I might fight with him for property.
On July 20, 1999, the Chinese government started to persecute Falun Gong, TV stations actively collected materials against Falun Gong. Song thought the time for him to become famous had arrived. He accepted an interview with the Liaoning Provincial TV Station. He and his father made up many lies. They lied that I was very kind before practicing Falun Gong and became bad after practicing Falun Gong. They maliciously spread slanderous words. Realizing that it had found materials against Falun Gong and the opportunity to win awards, the TV station videotaped the interview, a photo of Song and I, and Song's room. Song's room was very messy. His bathroom was full of dirty clothes. They showed one scene after another that made people sick.
The staff of the TV station found my work unit and my telephone number. They called and asked me, "Was your divorce due to practicing Falun Gong?" I clearly told them, "I did not divorce him because of Falun Gong."
The staff of the Liaoning TV Station went ahead and showed their interview on the program "Common People" without verifying the story and without my consent. The TV station deceived people and attacked the founder of Falun Dafa and practitioners.
Every person has the right to form an opinion after listening to my statement. The shows attacking Dafa on TV in China are all fabricated. Please do not be deceived by them again. Please believe that Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa and please remember "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance" and treat Dafa and its practitioners kindly. You can accumulate virtue and have a beautiful future. I wish you all a very beautiful future.
