UK: Using Chinese Calligraphy to Bring Falun Dafa's Goodness to People

On Sunday 9th May, 2004, practitioners from all parts of the UK gathered in Trafalgar Square, London, to celebrate the 5th Falun Dafa Day and the 12th anniversary of Falun Dafa’s introduction.

Chinese culture and literature are taught and handed down by Gods. The latter looks extraordinarily elegant in the form of Chinese calligraphy. To foreigners, Chinese literature is so beautiful and meaningful that they like to have their names written down in Chinese by Chinese calligraphists. Following such a fashion, we always arrange a programme of ‘free Chinese name writing’every time we hold Hongfa activities, which has proved to be effective.

This time, a UK practitioner designed two paper patterns for writing Chinese names on. The theme of the designs was to show the wonderfulness of Falun Dafa and of Gods. The background printed on the paper, to set off the writing, included a picture of the Falun emblem, different kinds of Gods, male and female attendants, fairies, heavenly beauties presenting the lotus flowers, as well as many kinds of Chinese words such as ‘Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance’, ‘Return to Your Original, True Self’, ‘May 13th, 2004, World Falun Dafa Day' and ‘The World Needs Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance’, and also Falun Dafa’s English websites. A framed space is left for writing the name. The whole composition is harmonious and in good taste, bright in colour, which made people feel pleased and brought beauty and enjoyment to them.

The weather was clear, visitors from all over the world came to the square in an endless stream. The ‘Free Chinese Name Writing’ attracted so much interest that the desk was surrounded by people waiting to have their name written out. Many of them came back later to ask for the same for their children, friends and relatives. The three hundred paper patterns we prepared were all gone in just a little while. During the waiting time, we kept explaining to people what Falun Dafa is, why we celebrate Falun Dafa Day here and the persecution against Falun Dafa in China. People who learned the truth came to sign the petition one after another. At the end, all English truth materials and VCDs were taken away. The left over Chinese VCDs and CDs were also demanded by people who insisted on having them .

This was the first time that we encountered Chinese people asking for their names to be written in calligraphy. Chinese people are normally the ones who have been poisoned by the evil’s propaganda the most. However, everyone has an eager desire to cultivate, beautiful things must be shared with the people. It seems that the evil persecution can no longer be sustained and the evil’s propaganda can no longer play a big role.

Through this activity, we wanted to show Falun Dafa’s goodness to people. Although not everyone could understand Dafa profoundly, everyone had the chance to know about Falun Dafa and left with their Chinese names on paper and pleasant thoughts. Perhaps they would frame the paper with their names on and hang it up in their homes to show to their friends and relatives. It may be the chance to give people the luck to cultivate Dafa in the future.
