Every second Sunday of May is Mother's Day and people enjoy the warm, tender moments of the festival. This year on May 9, Mother's Day meant even more for practitioners of the Falun Dafa Club of Sun Yat-Sen University, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. A six-day Falun Dafa Week series of events began on May 9. On the first day, at the Municipal Culture Centre, the club members, together with more than 4,000 fellow practitioners from all over Taiwan, celebrated the 12th anniversary of Falun Dafa's public introduction. They also set up booths with other young students throughout Taiwan to display the grand occasion of the wide spread of Falun Dafa in major universities. This large-scale event opened the celebration of Falun Dafa Week.

During Falun Dafa Week, practitioners on campus held the "Journey of Falun Dafa" photo exhibit, which displayed photos depicting the worldwide spread of Falun Dafa and the Jiang group's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. The exhibit allowed students, faculty and staff members throughout the campus to learn about the persecution in China. Several professors pointed out that the photos depicting the tortures were disturbing to look at, and wondered how this kind of atrocity could be allowed to happen in today's world. They felt that the persecution is indeed too violent.
During the events of Falun Dafa Week, many students came over to ask for information about how to practise Falun Dafa. The president of the University also expressed his strong interest in cultivating Falun Dafa after hearing the introduction. In addition to face-to-face discussions with people who wanted to learn about Falun Dafa, practitioners also assisted the International Future Science and Culture Research Centre and the Thinking and Studying Laboratory of Sun Yat-Sen University, to conduct the Extraordinary Science Forum. The theme of this forum was the exploration of the broad and fundamental content of Falun Dafa.
The Falun Dafa Club hoped to allow more people to understand Falun Dafa from a scientific perspective, through assisting with the science forum. Mr. Li Hongzhi clearly pointed out in Zhuan Falun (1) that many extraordinary scientific phenomena have been discovered, but they have been obstructed by conventional scientific notions; because of this, people are unable to further explore certain areas from the basis of what has been discovered.
Deputy President of Sun Yat-Sen University, Mr. Chen Tsing-keng, pointed out in his opening remarks that the distinction between "science" and "non-science" is blurred nowadays. He, in the field of neural science, has also found phenomena that cannot be explained by modern science. Mr. Chen explained that this shows that in the world that we are aware of, there exist more complicated and broader dimensions for us to explore. But we first have to give up our conventional notions and open our minds in order to accept new ideas.
In the forum, some people asked about the concept of different time-spaces. A fellow practitioner stood up and talked about his experiences in this regard and the benefits he obtained through the practice of Falun Dafa. The deputy director of the Er-gang-shan Hospital expressed his wish to learn and practise Falun Gong after the forum. With the coordination and collaboration of all practitioners in the Kaohsiung area, this event provided a good opportunity for people to learn about Dafa.
