German Falun Gong practitioner Chen Gang wrote to the European Commission, the German Government at all levels, international human rights organisations, the United Nations and various media organisations to appeal for the rescue of his elder sister Chen Jie, who is a Falun Gong practitioner and was illegally arrested on June the 2nd. He also urged the international community to pay attention to China’s on-going trampling of human rights and freedom of belief.
Chen Jie, thirty nine, a Falun Gong practitioner in Beijing City’s Shijingshan District, was illegally arrested at her home on the morning of June the 2nd 2004, by Shijingshan District’s National Security Brigade. When Chen Gang asked the National Security’s branch office about the reasons for the illegal arrest of such a kind-hearted person who cultivates “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance”, the office replied, “At present she cannot be released. Before the release of Falun Gong practitioners, they need to conduct an investigation to see if there is enough evidence to put them in prison." They also conducted a search of Chen Jie’s home.
Chen Jie used to be a staff member of Beijing Youan Hospital’s Laboratory Centre and started to practise Falun Gong in 1995. In 2001, she was illegally arrested and sent to a brainwashing centre for several months after she refused to participate in a campaign launched by the government at all levels in Beijing to defame Falun Gong.
