According to a report from the Falun Dafa Information Centre, on June 30, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference in South Africa. During the press conference, practitioners held the Jiang regime responsible for the shooting incident. About 15 members of the media attended the conference.
The media members were interested to know the connection between the shooting incident and Chinese government. The practitioners explained how Jiang Zemin and Zeng Qinghong have in the past exported the brutal persecution to outside of China and gone all out to harass, intimidate and even attack overseas Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioners pointed out that the attackers were not after money and had no personal reason to attack the practitioners. The practitioners' visit to South Africa was to help initiate legal action against the Chinese Vice-President and Minister of Commerce, who were key figures in the persecution of Falun Gong. The only logical explanation is that the shooting incident is an extension of Jiang regime's campaign to eliminate Falun Gong and to avoid legal action.
Practitioners said that the persecution has resulted in nearly 1000 confirmed deaths of Falun Gong practitioners.
