Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Qin Jinxiu, 60 years old, was a retired worker from a steel company in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. Before Ms. Qin practised Falun Gong, her life was endangered from severe diabetes. She started to practise Falun Gong in 1998, and all her symptoms disappeared after just one week of practice.
On July 20, 1999, Ms. Qin went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. She was imprisoned many times and brutally tortured. Her Party membership was revoked, and her household property confiscated. Ms. Qin, however, refused to compromise and insisted on telling people the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution, using any means. In January 2000, the Wuhan City "610 Office" (1) abducted her from her home, brought her to the Beihu Police Station and put her in prison. The police put her in a cell with just enough room for one person to stand, and interrogated her. They took turns interrogating her every three hours, and did not allow her to sleep, eat, or use the toilet. This mistreatment caused her to be extremely weak. After a few days, the inhumane torture caused her whole body to swell, and she could not walk. In order to avoid responsibility, and due to the strong demand from Ms. Qin's family, the police handed Ms. Qin over to her local neighbourhood community office for monitoring. After she was allowed to go home, the police and the people from the neighbourhood community office still went to her home and harassed her and caused her severe mental and physical damage. Qin Jinxiu's body became more severely swollen, and sadly, she passed away on February 23, 2004.
