On July 17th 2004, Falun Gong practitioners from Central and Northern Germany gathered in the square at the symbolic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to mark the fifth anniversary of the Jiang regime’s relentless persecution of Falun Gong. Using a live anti-torture exhibition and many poster displays, practitioners exposed to people from around the world the brutal persecution being carried out against Falun Gong practitioners in China. They appealed to the general public to help to end the killings in China. Many tourists stopped to take a look. When people learned that tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners in China are suffering this brutal torture in the Chinese labour camps and prisons right now, they were very shocked.
The live anti-torture show and poster displays exhibited over ten torture methods employed against Falun Gong practitioners in China. These included beating while both arms tied and outstretched, the tiger bench, small metal cages, burning with red-hot objects and shocking with electric batons. At the same time, practitioners also demonstrated the tranquil Falun Gong exercises, forming a sharp contrast with the torture scene.
After seeing the exhibition and posters, many tourists came to talk to practitioners and wanted to sign the petition. People were extremely shocked by the brutality of the persecution. Many took photos and indicated their respect to practitioners. Many others stood watching solemnly.
After seeing the posters, a German lady came to our stand and requested more materials about Falun Gong and the persecution. She said she wanted to pass these materials to her priest friend, asking him to pray for the persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in tomorrow’s prayers. She also asked for materials in Chinese so that she can pass them to her Chinese friend. The torture posters really shocked her. Pointing to the posters, she told other people repeatedly, "These are completely Nazi methods”. She asked for two paper Lotus flowers made by practitioners and said she would pray for practitioners who were persecuted to death enand those who are still suffering in this persecution.
A schoolgirl from Hanover asked practitioners for more information when looking at the posters. She could not believe that such brutal persecution is occurring in China now. She said she would inform her teacher about this and ask her teacher to introduce this to all her classmates. She hoped to contact practitioners in Hanover so that she could help the persecuted practitioners.
To commemorate over one thousand practitioners persecuted to death, practitioners in Berlin made about a thousand paper Lotus flowers. With a poem written by a practitioner, they gave out Lotus flower to passers-by and told them the meaning behind it. People were all happy to receive the Lotus flower and expressed that they would pray for Falun Gong practitioners and would appeal with us for the end of this persecution.
Practitioners from Northern Germany continued their activity in Berlin and Hamburg on the 20th of July to mark the fifth anniversary of the persecution.
