In December 2003, Dafa practitioner Mr. Liu Chengjun was on the verge of death due to persecution at Jilin City Prison. He was sent twice in one week to a hospital by the Jilin Prison Administration Bureau. The second time he was carried to the labour camp hospital, he was very weak due to his hunger strike to protest the persecution. Some of his teeth had been pried out during force-feedings, and they could not find the veins on his hands.
After the horrific deeds of the prison were partially made public, Liu's family members went to the hospital, demanding his release. The labour camp hospital was shocked, and immediately held a meeting to investigate how the news had leaked out. Their fear after discovering that their deeds had been exposed was quite significant.
Just one day before Liu Chengjun was tortured to death, due to pressure from outside, the director of the prison administration bureau made a special trip to the labor camp hospital to discuss possible countermeasures. On the second day, they transferred Liu Chengjun to a better quality hospital, China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University. That same day Liu Chengjun died, a victim of injustice, after suffering from one year and nine months of brutal torture.
