Mr. Tang Jian, a Falun Gong practitioner, was tortured to death at the age of 39. He was a graduate of Nankai University in Physics and worked at Jialingdao Middle School.
In July 2001, Mr. Tang was sentenced to one year of forced labour and sent to Shuangkou Forced Labour Camp in Tianjin City. In July 2002, he was released when he was near death from torture. After his release, he continued doing the Falun Gong exercises to recover his health. Two months later, he was detained again in the Shuangkou Forced Labour Camp. While he was detained the second time, the guards subjected him to far more brutal tortures in an effort to force Tang Jian to give up his belief in Falun Gong.
For example, he would be beaten all over his body, leaving his eyes blackened and filled with blood and his bruised face burnt by cigarettes. After the beating, more than ten criminals repeatedly immersed him in salt water for over an hour each time. He was frequently deprived of sleep all night while being tortured. His arms were twisted behind him and pulled up, forcing his head down. Since he refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong, he was tortured until injuries covered every part of his body. He suffered a high fever, became unconscious, and developed a severe lung infection. Only then was his family notified to come and pick him up. He died at home after telling his family about the tortures he suffered at the Shuangkou Forced Labour Camp.
Tang Jian died on July 9, 2004, from the brutal torture he received at the camp. A strong and excellent teacher died of torture just because he firmly followed the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance!"
We hope that those people who know the truth will expose the names of the police officers that tortured Tang Jian, because Mr. Tang deserves justice.
