Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yao Jingmin from Hanzhong City, Shanxi Province was 61 years old when he was sent to Zaozihe Forced Labour Camp in Shaanxi Province, although the legal age limit for forced labour is 60 years. He died as a result of torture in March 2004.
Mr. Yao Jingmin was retired from China's No. 9 Metallurgical Industry Company in Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province. In January 2003 he was arrested while distributing Falun Gong truth clarification materials. In September 2003 he was sentenced to two and a half years of forced labour and was sent to the Zaozihe Forced Labour Camp.
Although Yao Jingmin was 61 years old at the time, the labour camp authorities kept him in Division 4. After more than four months of solitary confinement and torture, Yao Jingmin's whole body became swollen, his face became severely distorted and he could not take care of himself. He could not walk and was often unconscious.
The labour camp authorities told his family in December 2003 to take him home. Yao Jingmin passed away in March 2004.
