On Friday the 10th of December, World Human Rights Day, a press conference was held in the capital city of Slovakia to inform the media about Falun Gong and the five-year campaign of genocide against the practice. Practitioners hoped that their efforts to tell people about the persecution against Falun Gong could receive widespread coverage through the media and even more people could stand up and call for these human rights abuses to be brought to an end.
After the press conference, practitioners of Falun Gong spent the rest of World Human Rights Day in the centre of Bratislava to raise awareness about the persecution that has taken the lives of over 1,100 people. Even though the weather was freezing, the reactions of people were warm. Many people read the information boards and saw pictures of the persecution before signing a petition to call for an end to these atrocities.
Between 200,000 and 1 million people have been illegally sent to forced labour camps without trial in China because they refuse to renounce their belief in Falun Gong and its guiding principles of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance. The Slovakian people were shocked and confused that such a peaceful practice, which has brought improved physical and spiritual wellbeing to 100 million people in 60 countries, could be persecuted so brutally. Each signature added to the petition is another voice in the worldwide call for an end to the persecution of people who merely want to be good and healthy through practising Falun Gong.
