“From the words Truthfulness Compassion Tolerance, I know that Falun Gong is good.” This is what a middle-aged Chinese couple told me when they passed our activity last weekend.
On Saturday 12th March, London Falun Gong practitioners went to Wood Green, a busy area in north London, and held an activity outside Wood Green Library, during which a middle aged Chinese couple with the surname of Shao passed the site. They carefully looked at our posters and anti-torture pictures, and some leaflets and video-CDs before holding a very long conversation with me. Mr. Shao sai,: “I’ve heard of Falun Gong and I also know that the Chinese Government doesn’t allow people to practise Falun Gong. Although I don’t know about Falun Gong clearly and in detail, from the words Truthfulness Compassion Tolerance, I know that Falun Gong is good. Maybe that’s why there are so many people practising it. If Falun Gong is really like what the Chinese government says, then it wouldn’t need to be persecuted by the government and would disappear completely by itself without trace. If so many people practise it, there must be good reasons why.”
I told him about what Falun Gong is, Falun Gong’s basic cultivation principles, the physical and spiritual benefits which Falun Gong can give people and the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong. After looking at our anti-torture pictures, Mr. Shao sighed and said with emotion, “I just can’t believe that there are still inhumane things like this happening today in the 21st Century!” I said that I don’t want to believe it either, but the persecution has really happened, and is continuing. When I talked about how the Chinese government used lies to deceive the public, taking advantage of China’s state-run media to slander Falun Gong incite people’s hatred towards the practice, Mr. Shao said, “This, I know only too well. This is called condemning and accusing at will without strong evidence! Do you know what I used to do? Ten years ago I worked in Xinhua News Agency. I was none other than a Xinhua News reporter.”
Mr. Shao also told me, he has already read The Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party published by “The Epoch Times” and he felt it was extremely well written; he said that even if the Communist Party didn’t persecute Falun Gong, it should have crumpled and collapsed anyway. I said true, this is determined by the Communist Party’s nature. Now that the Communist Party did persecute Falun Gong, it would only fall apart quicker! Finally, he showed great interest in learning Falun Gong. A practitioner there gave Mr Shao the main book of Falun Gong practice, Zhuan Falun.
