On September 3, 2001, practitioner Zhang Rongxian, a resident from Xujia Village, Yanhu District, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, went to Taiyuan City to visit her daughter who was sentenced to two years of forced labour as a result of appealing in Beijing. She is illegally detained in Taiyuan City's Xindian Female Forced Labour Camp. In the labour camp registration centre, the warden ordered her to slander Teacher Li Hongzhi [the founder of Falun Gong]. She refused, with stern words. In the meantime, she clarified the truth to the warden. However, the warden wouldn't listen to her. He reported her to the police. The police came, yanked Zhang Rongxian by the hair and dragged her into the police car without any valid reason. In the car Ms. Zhang was beaten and kicked. She was detained that night and a few days later she was sentenced to two years of forced labour.
