Twelve Falun Gong Practitioners Who Were Persecuted to Death

1. Ms. Li Xiuxue from Jilin Province passed away in 1999

65-year-old Ms. Li Xiuxue died in October 1999. For many years, she was very active in studying, and teaching others about Falun Gong. After the persecution started in 1999, Ms. Li was arrested three times while on her way to Beijing and Changchun. The perpetrators harassed her day and night, either by calling her or coming to her house. They also ransacked her house and confiscated Falun Gong related materials.

Ms. Li could not handle the huge pressure. She succumbed and signed a guarantee statement (1) against her will. Afterwards, she continued practising, and greatly regretted having signed the statement. The perpetrators' threats and the persecution were too great for her. Ms. Li died in October 1999, just a few months after the persecution started. After she passed away, other practitioners found that she kept all of the Falun Gong related books and photos in a heavy box, in perfect condition. It is really difficult to imagine how an elderly and weak woman could have managed to move the box filled with materials to a secret and safe place in order to avoid the persecutors' searches. Other practitioners then kept these materials, but sadly, the police found out about them and took them away. At the same time, we want to declare on Ms. Li's behalf that all of her signatures on any slanderous documents were done under duress and against her will and are therefore void.

2. Ms. He Fengqing from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province died in 2003

Ms. He Fengqing was from a village near Chengdu City. Before she started practising Falun Dafa in 1996, she had a long-term heart ailment and was unable to take care herself. Within one year after she started the practice, her diseases were gone and she became healthy.

After July 20, 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong started, Ms. He went to Beijing to appeal to the government for the right to practice Falun Gong. In July 2000, she held a peaceful appeal on Tiananmen Square in Beijing. She was later arrested and escorted back to her hometown. She was detained in the Chengdu City Detention Centre and suffered from persecution there.

When Ms. He was released, the Chengdu City 610 Office (2) put her under constant monitoring and surveillance. They repeatedly harassed her and finally forced her to attend a brainwashing session. Due to the prolonged persecution, Ms. He passed away in July 2003 at the age of 63.

3. Ms. Wang Shuwen from Beijing died in 2003

Ms. Wang Shuwen, was around 65 years old, and lived in the Chaoyang District of Beijing City. She started practising Falun Dafa in 1994. Since the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, Ms. Wang appealed many times. She was detained, interrogated and forced to live under constant surveillance. The persecution brought trauma to her, both mentally and physically.

Because of the trauma, one side of her body became paralysed. Still, the persecutors never stopped harassing her. In January 2003, Ms. Wang Shuwen passed away.

4. Mr. Wang Donghui from Jilin Province passed away in 2003

66-year-old Mr. Wang Donghui was from Da'an City of Jilin Province. He was a manager of an agriculture mechanism company. He started practising Falun Gong in 1997 while he was seriously ill. After a half year of practising, he turned from a weak person into a healthy person. He could carry a 55 lb. barrel of liquid gas up a flight of stairs. Because of the persecution, Mr. Wang and his family suffered severely. Persecutors often came to their house to harass them. In 2002, the local police detained and tortured his wife Ms. Yu Qiushi (also known as Yu Shufen) until she died. This was a hard blow to Mr. Wang. The police of Da'an City tried to arrest his daughter and son-in-law by working in conjunction with their workplaces. As a result, his daughter and son-in-law had to leave home. Mr. Wang also received many threatening phone calls. Because of the constant huge pressure, Ms. Wang had a mental breakdown. On January 19, 2003, he passed away.

5. Ms. Zhao Fengying from Jilin Province passed away in 2001

Ms. Zhao Fengying, was a 38-year-old practitioner from a village in Fuyu County, Jilin Province. In March 2000, she was detained for 15 days for going to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. The county government fined her and extorted 5,300 yuan (3) from her. She was deeply confused by the government's unreasonable action and it deeply troubled her mentally. One day in July 2001, she suddenly showed symptoms of serious heart disease and passed away.

Fifty-year-old Ms. Zhang Chunmei lived in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, she peacefully and lawfully appealed for Falun Dafa in Beijing; as a result, she was detained and sent back to her hometown. After arriving there, she was detained in the police station detention centre, and was forced to attend brainwashing classes four times consecutively, where she was brutally brainwashed and subjected to cruel mental and physical persecution. In the end of April 2001, Zhang Chunmei was finally released and allowed to go home, but the authorities continued to frequently harass her. Her personal freedom was restricted and she wasn't allowed to go out. She had no income, lived in poverty, and then fell critically ill. On September 14, 2001, Ms. Zhang Chunmei passed away.

Ms. Zhang Ying was 66 years old, and lived in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. In 2002, she peacefully and legally appealed for Falun Dafa in Beijing. As a result, she was detained in the Shijingshan Detention Centre by police in Beijing. Later, the Deputy Chief of the Wansong Street Police Station in Wuhan brought her back to Wuhan City. On his way to Beijing, the Deputy Chief ordered Ms. Zhang's husband to accompany him. When they returned to Wuhan, he even threatened Ms. Zhang's husband, telling him that the government would sentence Ms. Zhang and put her in jail. He also told them that Ms. Zhang should report to the authorities if she wanted to go out to a hospital or a park. Ms. Zhang was subjected to such cruel persecution that she fell to critically ill with pancreatic cancer. On February 11, 2003, Ms. Zhang Ying passed away.

Ms. Chen Yinfang was 46 years old and lived in Wuhan City. Soon after she began practising Falun Dafa, her health improved and she began to recover from the advanced stage uterine cancer she had previously suffered. She could eat and sleep normally, and she could even manage difficult farm work. Many people witnessed the miracles that Ms. Chen experienced from practising Falun Dafa, and they came one after another, to learn and practise it. After Jiang Zemin's regime launched the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, more than 10 policemen broke into her home and detained her in the police station. There they threatened and intimidated her unmercifully. Ms. Chen suffered overwhelming mental stress, and her disease relapsed. She passed away on November 30, 2000.

Ms. Qu Fengqin, 80 years old, lived in a village near Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province. Before she started practising Falun Dafa, she suffered from several diseases, including heart disease, lung problems, and tracheitis. She had to take injections and medicines. In 1998, Ms. Qu started practising Falun Gong, and soon after that, all her diseases just went away. It was Falun Dafa that gave her a second life. After the persecution of Falun Gong began, Qu Fengqin peacefully and legally appealed for Falun Dafa in Beijing in 2000 in order to validate the goodness of Falun Dafa. As a result, she was detained at Tiananmen Square police station. When Ms. Qu returned home, the persecution of Falun Gong had escalated, so she was frightened, didn't dare practise Dafa, and her diseases relapsed. On August 23, 2000, Ms. Qu passed away.

Mr. Liu Hanyu was 44 years old; he lived in Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province. He ran a privately owned business, the Huayu Cosmetic Store. In 1998 he started practising Falun Gong, and he benefited mentally and physically. After the persecution started in 1999, Mr. Liu's house was searched and his property was confiscated. His wife was repeatedly detained, and the lawless officials also extorted 3,000 yuan in fines from her. In the terrible situation created by members of the 610 Office, Mr. Liu lived in a state of extreme panic, and bore great mental stress. His heart disease relapsed, and he died on February 17, 2005.

Mr. Wang Lianzhi was a 72-year-old practitioner from the Wafengdian Area in Liaoning Province. Because his son was illegally detained in a labour camp, the local police and lawless officials from the 610 Office repeatedly went to his home and harassed him. Mr. Liu suffered huge psychological pressure. He became bedridden, and passed away on January 2004.

Ms. Wu Zhihu was a 67-year-old retiree of the Family Planning Office in Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province. In 1993, she learned Falun Dafa. After she began practising all her diseases, including high blood pressure, just went away. In 1999, government officials forced her to read prepared articles which slandered Falun Dafa as part of a TV programme, and they also forced her to write a guarantee statement, renouncing her practice of Falun Gong. She continued to be followed, watched, and threatened by the local police a long time after, and her home phone was also tapped. As a result of severe physical and mental persecution, Ms. Wu suffered the symptoms of a stroke in March 2003. In May 2004, her daughter was forcefully brainwashed merely because she practised Falun Gong and distributed leaflets exposing the persecution about Dafa. When Ms. Wu heard the news, her mental and physical suffering increased. Having suffered so much for such a long time, Ms. Wu passed away in December 2004.

(1) "Guarantee Statement": A statement to declare that one is remorseful for practising Falun Gong and guarantees not to practise Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.

(2) "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

(3) "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
