The University of Kwazulu-Natal is a comprehensive university that has a nearly 100-year history in South Africa. On April 14, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners held a seminar at the university concerning the human rights violations suffered by fellow practitioners in China. During the one-hour seminar, practitioners introduced Falun Dafa to the students and faculty members, and discussed the brutality of the persecution the practise has encountered. They talked about the reason why Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party persecute such a virtuous practise, which has brought great health and moral benefits to millions of people.
Practitioners introducing Falun Dafa and the persecution in China |
Practitioner Ms. Lin Li, who was unlawfully detained three times and sentenced to one year and six months in a labour camp in China for refusing to give up her practise of Falun Gong, discussed the persecution she suffered in China. She also shared her experience about how the Chinese Communist authority attempted to prevent her from practising Falun Gong in South Africa, but eventually failed to achieve their goal. Students and faculty members listened attentively throughout the seminar. Some of the students from the Law Department study human rights issues in class. They expressed their deep concern over the persecution encountered by Falun Dafa practitioners in China, and they wanted to learn more about Falun Gong.
The practitioners also set up a practise site on campus.
