Mr. Li Yizhong, 62 years old, was a school teacher in Xingzi County, Jiangxi Province. He went to Beijing three times to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. In July 2000, the police arrested him in Hubei Province as he was travelling to Beijing and detained him in a detention centre. During detention the police ordered seven inmates to take turns beating him. After his release, he vomited a lot of blood and his health took a turn for the worse.
In 2001, Mr. Li was arrested in Tiananmen Square for appealing for Falun Gong. After being released, he could not go home for fear of further persecution. He was homeless for over three months and his health worsened. The 610 Office (1) ransacked his home several times and fined his family. The county's Department of Education ordered the school to fire him, increasing his mental and physical suffering. Mr. Li died on March 14, 2005.
Mr. Dai Suyou, 73 years old, lived in Jilin City, Jilin Province. In January of 2001, he went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong and returned home safely. In May 2001, the police arrested him in a fellow practitioner's home and sent him to a detention center. He was released after over 20 days' detention. After that, the police often harassed him at home, knocking heavily on the door at midnight, following him, and monitoring his daily activities. He was able to dodge the monitoring but had to leave his blind wife and ten-day-old granddaughter on their own. In October 2001, Mr. Dai was forced to become homeless. He had been persecuted for keeping up his belief in Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. He died on February 17, 2005.
Ms. Mao Yali, over 40, was a practitioner from Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. In 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. The district police took her back to Harbin City. She was later sent to a mental hospital and was injected with unknown drugs. She also suffered brainwashing in the mental hospital. She died within a few months of her detainment.
Mr. Pan Zheng, 53 years old, was a practitioner from Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. His wife is also a practitioner and refused to write the "guarantee letter" to renounce practising Falun Gong. In 2002, after 9 o'clock in the evening, staff from the local neighbourhood administrative committee, his workplace, and the local police station often came to his home to harass his family. Due to the frequent harassment and persecution, he could not live a normal life. Mr. Pan died on January 12, 2004.
Mr. Liu Shijun, 43 years old, was a practitioner from Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province. After he started practising Falun Gong, many of his diseases were cured and he was in excellent health. After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal for his right to practise Falun Gong and was arrested and detained in the Jixi City Detention Centre for four months. After being released, his health deteriorated and his old diseases came back. He passed away on March 4, 2005.
Mr. Zhou Shusheng, 56 years old, lived in a village near Liaocheng City, Shandong Province. In August 2002, he was arrested and detained for half a month for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. After his release, the local authorities harassed him at home and threatened him constantly. Mr. Zhou suffered both mentally and physically and died on October 21, 2004.
Ms. Yu Suyun, originally from Zhangqiu in Shandong Province, worked in Henan Province. After the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice. She was later taken back by the 610 Office of Jinan City. She was harassed and threatened by the local authorities and died on February 4, 2005.
