On April the 4th, Spanish practitioners held an anti-torture exhibition in La Rambla, an elegant boulevard in a bustling area of downtown Barcelona. Many people were shocked to see a real-life anti-torture exhibition. When passing by, a wheel-chair bound elderly lady studied the words on the posters. She was one of the first of many to sign their her name on a petition solemnly.
Anti-torture exhibition in Barcelona |
A student approached a practitioner acting as a Chinese policeman and asked with curiosity, “What’s going on here? Are you really a policeman?” The practitioner told him, “We are not real policemen, but we are simulating the horrendous persecution that’s happening in China. Many people who believe in ‘Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance’ have been persecuted to death.”
The student was speechless. “Would you like to help them?” asked the practitioner. “Of course I would!” He nodded his head seriously. The practitioner then told him, “You may go to the desk over there to sign the petition.” The boy rushed over to sign immediately.

More people call for an end to the persecution |
Among those who queued up to sign the petition were people from various ethnic groups, including Chinese. When passing by, Chinese people could not help but stop to take a look. A practitioner handing out flyers asked them, “Do you know the treatment of Falun Gong is the most appalling injustice?” They replied, “Yes, we have heard of it.” The practitioner continued, “This persecution is still going on at present. Many people have been persecuted to death, even eight-month-old babies and the elderly in their seventies or eighties are no exception.” One of the Chinese people said, “It is the Chinese Communist Party’s consistent practice to oppress good people.” Another added, “It certainly is. They are so evil that many Chinese people have left the mainland and gone to live overseas.”
Two Chinese college students said to practitioners that they were happy to receive various leaflets and Video-CDs so that they could learn what’s really happening in China. Apart from extending their thanks to the practitioners, they promised to pass those materials on to others as soon as they finished reading them.
At the anti-torture exhibition, many kind-hearted people signed a petition to support Falun Gong practitioners. Some asked for more flyers to give to their teachers, classmates, family members or colleagues, while others bought books and wanted to learn the exercises on the spot.
Many Chinese were astonished at the human rights abuses… | …and so were westerners |
Near the anti-torture exhibition site, there was a bar run by a person from Ecuador. The owner came over to sign the petition and told the practitioners that he could feel the strong energy from the exhibition site across the street.
To participate in this activity, Madrid practitioners and Jelona practitioners travelled a long way to work with Barcelona practitioners. Regardless of where they were from and whether they knew each other or not, they cooperated closely to do whatever they needed to.
Two practitioners in their sixties were among those who were from Madrid. Though it took them nearly fourteen hours to drive to and from Barcelona, they didn’t feel tired whatsoever throughout the one-and-a-half-day activities. All the practitioners know the importance of making good use of their precious time to fulfil their responsibilities of letting people know about the persecution.
