According to several sources, Wang was barely alive when she was taken from the labour camp to a hospital. She had been on a hunger strike for at least twenty-five days, possibly more than a month. The camp officials ignored her weakening condition. Furthermore, she was forced to sleep on a cold concrete floor. The camp officials only rushed her to the hospital for emergency treatment when she was critically ill, hoping to avoid responsibility for her death.
We inquired at the government's legal departments, and found that according to the law, beating, verbally abusing, and maltreating inmates are offences that will cause the labour camp staff involved to be expelled from their jobs immediately. If any harm comes to an inmate, the responsible person has already violated the law for "abuse of power endowed by one's position." Related offences include "abuse of authority resulting in injury" and "abuse of authority resulting in death."
We strongly demand that the lawbreakers in the Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp, who caused the death of Wang Kefei, be immediately brought to justice.
