According to a report by the Italian Asia News Agency of the 26th of April, the Chinese Communist Party (CPP) has adopted the largest-scale police action since 1999 to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The CPP has arrested many Falun Gong practitioners in Shandong, Jiangxi, Xichuan provinces and inner Mongolia.
According to the report, Amnesty International revealed the situation to the outside world while supporting Falun Gong. Last month, Falun Gong practitioner Liu Yewen was arrested for distributing material and has been missing ever since.
The report stated that on the 25th of April 1999, over 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners held a peaceful petition in Beijing to protest the violations of their human rights. In July 1999, then PRC President Jiang Zemin launched a large-scale brutal persecution of the Falun Gong movement. At that time, there were about 100 million Falun Gong practitioners in China. Since then, persecution and vilification of Falun Gong have continued and Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested, imprisoned, beaten and many have been killed.
The report says that from July 1999 to April 2005, a total of 1880 Falun Gong practitioners, whose names and background are identified, have died as a result of the persecution. According to our understanding, the actual number might be much higher, the number of deaths is nationally classified information and those who reveal it risk being arrested. Hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been detained many families were arrested together; more than 200,000 people were forced into labour education without trial. Many were checked into mental institutions to undergo sinister brainwashing and even medicines detrimental to their nervous systems is forcibly administered to them.
