To the Singapore Government,
Your nation’s recent unjust conviction of Falun Gong practitioners Ng Chye Huay and Cheng Lujin has raised a serious question mark over Singapore’s democracy and rule of law in the international community. Laws should be established based on morality and human conscience. They are used to maintain social fairness and justice, not for justifying self-interest. We believe Singapore is a signatory to the World Human Rights Declaration. The actions of two Falun Gong practitioners were in no way exceeding the scope of basic freedom of speech and belief, especially considering that Falun Gong is a registered legal group in Singapore.
The Singapore Government always declares itself as a true admirer of Confucian culture. Confucianism teaches “Benevolence, Faithfulness, Respect, Wisdom, and Trust”. The prison authority prevented a Falun Gong practitioner from breast-feeding her six-month-old baby. This is not benevolent. The authority could not distinguish right from wrong and used an unjust law to punish the kind lady. The police deliberately disturbed practitioners and the judge explained the law ridiculously; this is disrespectful. Following in the footsteps of the Chinese Communist party and linking your very existence with the CCP is “unwise”; as a signatory to the World Human Rights Declaration, you should follow its precepts.
Let us ask: if the Honourable Confucius learned that your authority carries out Confucianism in this way, what would he think?
We believe that the Singapore authority knows exactly what Falun Gong is. Why does an independent country want to appease the CCP? Falun Gong has spread to over sixty countries and received over a thousand proclamations and awards. Why is only the CCP persecuting Falun Gong?
At this great moment of worldwide withdrawal from the CCP, initiated by the spread of the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party”, and when China is about to say goodbye to the CCP and enter a new free era, Singapore has tied its own future with the CCP. It is really shortsighted and against the current of world development.
We appeal to the Singapore Government and its Justice Department to look at this case again and give back Falun Gong practitioners’ innocent reputation. This would help to recover Singapore’s image in the world community. We also strongly demand the immediate release of Ng Chye Huay and Cheng Lujin. We, together with all Falun Gong practitioners around the world, all human rights organisations, international organisations and all just people in the world, will continue to observe this case.
