On the 11th of June 2005, practitioners in St. Petersburg held an activity at Lomonosov tube station. The day was sunny and bright, which is unusual in St. Petersburg. Five huge posters displayed information on Falun Gong, letting people know about the practice’s spread to 100 million in over 60 countries. The posters also contained photos of the persecution suffered by Falun Gong practitioners in China and paintings by Australian artist and Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Cuiying. Since escaping a forced labour camp where she was viciously abused, Zhang Cuiying left China from Australia and since then has toured the world displaying her paintings and telling people about the human rights abuses against Falun Gong. During the activity practitioners taught interested passers-by how to fold beautiful paper lotus flowers.
Lots of pedestrians stopped to look closely at the posters and ask some questions. After seeing the brutal scenes of persecution, people’s compassionate sides were clear that it must be stopped. Many of them asked, “Why are such things happening in the world today?” A large number of people did not want to leave and stayed a long time looking at the posters and listening to practitioners explaining more about Falun Gong.
