From April to June 2005, the 610 Office (1), the Politics Committee, local police stations, the residential district and others from the Hefei area, Anhui Province, planned and carried out the persecution of Dafa practitioners in the region. They used deceit and coercive methods to arrest Dafa practitioners from the China Scientific and Technical University, and one other person whose name is not known. All practitioners were taken to the brainwashing centre in Yaohai District and to the Hefei Police Training Centre, Anhui Province (specifically, the Anhui Provincial Police Officer Institute). After being subjected to torture, some Dafa practitioners are on the verge of death.
According to the reports that we have received so far, many practitioners have said that in the closed brainwashing sessions the police beat, cursed and threatened them, and deprived them of sleep. The police also isolated them from the outside world, not permitting anyone to visit. They use all kinds of torture methods to persecute them. For over ten days, more than 10 Dafa practitioners have been protesting their treatment by conducting a hunger strike. In response to this protest the police have started to torture them by force-feeding them.
On May 10, 2005, Zhang Shengwu from the East Seventh Street residential committee, from the Hengtong Residential small region, and the police from the local police station at East Seventh Street, arrested Ms. Xu Qiong, who was a Falun Gong practitioner from the Spinning Machine Factory, while she was working. They brought her to the brainwashing centre to forcibly "transform" (2) her. When they arrested Ms. Xu, her co-workers asked the police, "What evidence do you have to arrest her? Show the related paperwork and the legal procedure. If you cannot show it, then you are the people who are deliberately breaking the law!" Zhang Shengwu from the local police station and the residential committee could not show any legal documents, evidence or procedure for the arrest. Then they requested that Ms. Xu write a written guarantee statement. If she did, they said they would not arrest her. Otherwise, they would. They also said that if anyone dared to stop them, they would arrest that person on the charge of interfering with official business. Ms. Xu refused to accept this situation. Immediately, several policemen lifted her up and carried her to the police van. She was then imprisoned in the brainwashing centre.
During the brainwashing session, they threatened Ms. Xu by saying that they would stop her son from going to college if she did not "transform." The Education Committee and her son's school also sent people to pressure Ms. Xu, claiming that they would transfer her son from an important class (which excellent students attend) to an ordinary class (attended by average or below average students), and not allow him to go to college even if he were admitted.
At about 5:00 p.m. on June 8, 2005, several people suddenly broke into Ms. Ji Guangxiong's home at Anhui University and planned to forcibly take her to the brainwashing centre. Her family members immediately resisted. They stood up to the police, saying, "You rushed into our residence and are trying to arrest people. This is an illegal act!" But the police did not leave. At that time, Dafa practitioner Ms. Ji's blood pressure elevated to 230. She lay down on the bed and could not move. At this time more than ten people came to the house. During this period, Ms. Ji's young brother Mr. Ji Guangkui and her sister-in-law Ms. Zhang Lanping (Ms. Zhang's husband Mr. Ji Guangjie was arrested two years ago because he firmly practised Dafa. Now, he is imprisoned in the Suzhou Jail.) were visiting Ms. Ji. As a result of their standing up to the police, all of them were taken to the brainwashing centre. Ning Guangan, the officer from the 610 Office, the Shushan District Politics and Law Committee, Hefei City, who was incited by "the higher authorities," arrested Ms. Ji Guangxiong, Mr. Ji Guangkui and Ms. Zhang Lanping." Other people involved include Wang Changlin, the director of the Xiyuan residential district, and Wang Ling from the local police station.
Dafa practitioner Ms. Xu Xiaoxian was arrested at the supermarket on the afternoon of June 8.
Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Yulian was arrested in the morning when she was on the way to her workplace.
Personnel from the National Security Department arrested Dafa practitioner Ms. Mei Tingwhile when she was at work.
Dafa practitioner Mr. Wang Jian received a phone call from Li Yanjiang from the Ningguo Ave. residential district, who deceptively offered to help him find a job. As a result, he was arrested on the way to the residential district.
Wang Lu's group of people from the Luyang Public Security Sub-bureau arrested Mr. Ma from the China Scientific and Technical University and another Dafa practitioner whose name is unknown.
