Chai Yong, male, approximately 29, of Han ethnicity, was a self-employed worker in Changji City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region. In October 1999, Chai was illegally sentenced to one and a half years in a forced labour camp for appealing for Falun Gong. Having suffered from tremendous persecution, Chai Yong died in August 2001.
In October 1999, Chai and his wife (also a practitioner) went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. They took with them an appeal letter signed by over 40 local practitioners. They were arrested in Beijing. The local police retrieved them and sent them to a detention centre.
During the detention, Chai persisted in studying the Fa [the teachings of Falun Gong taught in the book Zhuan Falun] and practicing the exercises, for which he was beaten many times. He went on a hunger strike for over 20 days to protest the persecution. Later, Chai was sentenced to one and a half years in forced labour camp. In the labour camp, Chai still continued to study the Fa and practice the exercises, for which he was again tortured many times and severely injured.
Around New Year's Day of 2001, a tumour was found in Chai's abdomen. Fearing that they would have to take legal responsibilities in case Chai dies, the labour camp officials released him early. At the time, the formerly happy and strong Chai was quite frail, and he could hardly walk as a result of injuries sustained during torture.
Around August 2001, Chai's health condition further deteriorated. He passed away en route to a hospital. The autopsy revealed that his kidneys had failed before his death. Judging from his health condition before he went to appeal in Beijing in October 1999 and the torture he suffered; Chai Yong's death undoubtedly resulted from the severe torture by the police.
We hope that people who know the truth about Chai Yong's situation could provide us with more detailed information, so that the perpetrators could be put to justice when the persecution ends.
Currently, the perpetrators in the Changji area are still running rampant. They have illegally detained and sentenced almost every Falun Dafa practitioner who stepped forward to validate Falun Dafa. The persecutors also used local religions and the conflicts between ethnicities to instigate some people to arrest, watch, and beat Falun Dafa practitioners.
