Answering Chinese People's Questions About Falun Gong

Recently my whole family, at a friendfs invitation, attended a gathering at his place along with five or six other families during the end of year holidays. Among the participants, some were our acquaintances, and some were strangers. After greeting one another, we sat down at the table for dinner. The host poured grape wine for us in turn. When the host was pouring the grape wine for me, he said: gOh, I am aware that a qigong cultivator is not supposed to drink.h

At this time, a lady beside me asked: gPracticing Qigong? What kind of qigong is it?h

I replied: gIt is Falun Gong, and I have practiced it for more than two years. It is really good.h Following my response, the atmosphere became heated up like boiling water. One after another, they started to ask some questions pertaining to Falun Gong. From the delicacies served at the dinner, they first asked about the issue of eating meat then moved on to the issue of killing lives, how does one practice Falun Gong, my understanding towards life, the differences between Falun Gong and other kinds of qigong, etc. I tried my best to answer every question based on the principles of the Fa [teachings of Falun Gong]. When explaining about the Main Spirit (Primordial Spirit), the Assistant Spirit (Sub consciousness) and the phenomenon of the Main Spirit leaving the human body, I talked about the experiences of those who came back from the brink of death during the 1976 earthquake in Tangshan quoted in Zhuan Falun [the main book of Falun Gong] (Note: Detailled information on this can been obtained from httpF//www.tiandi999.com/sm/its.html)

Just as I was talking about how those survivors recalled after the event their experiences of their Main Spirits leaving their bodies, a lady from Beijing who sat on my left suddenly clapped her hands and shouted excitedly: gAha, I know. I know. Years ago, when I was sick and rushed to a hospital, I passed out in pain because of an overdose of medicine injected by the doctor. A moment later, I found myself slowly floating up to the ceiling, and saw myself lying beneath, with doctors and nurses around trying to save me. But I shouted hastily from above: gI am up here! I am up here!h h

All of a sudden, the atmosphere at the dinner party became tense. Everybody stared at her in great astonishment, dumbstruck. After a moment of silence, I was the first to react and broke the silence saying: gLook! Look! Surely there is some truth to this.h I was also very much surprised. I did not expect that an example on the phenomenon of the Main Spirit leaving the body which I thought at first would be very difficult for an atheist to understand was just near at hand. It was verified by the personal experience of an atheist. Whatfs more, this happened in a reputable hospital in Beijing, thus it was not simply a wild story circulating in the countryside.

A man who had probably just recovered from his astonishment said hesitatingly: gIsnft this a bit too incredible? Could this be a kind of illusion in the mind?h

I said: gActually this is not so. Some western psychiatrists have already conducted studies on the Main Spirit leaving the body. Not only that, they have also done a research on people who have memories of previous lives. After intensive research and careful analysis of hundreds of thousands of cases gathered from around the world, it has been concluded that these phenomena do exist objectively. It is just that currently science has yet to come up with generally accepted theories to explain them. Thus such phenomena and research are not as familiar to ordinary people as what is taught in textbooks.h

Then someone talked about a murder case, committed by a Fu XX, broadcast over Chinafs Central Television Station for the past few days. The host said: gI have seen the programme. One look at that guy (referring to the murderer FuXX) and you could tell that he has mental problems. He talks nonsense without any logic. A major murder case, yet he described it as if telling a tale to a kid. One look and you would know that they were acting a drama.h

I nodded, and said: gYou are right. These ridiculous words can only be used to deceive those who do not realize the truth and do not think independently. This is also why Chinese authorities have tried ways and means to ban the book Zhuan Falun and prohibit people from reading it because people will immediately realize that those untrue words are nothing but denigration once they read it. Falun Dafa requires us to be a good person in society, in the family and at work. Practitioners should try their best to care for flowers, birds, insects and fish, thus how is it possible for a practitioner to commit murder? This is also not the first time the Chinese authorities have tried to fabricate a claim against Falun Gong. The self-immolation case in Tiananmen Square turned out to be a typical example of such awkward denigration which backfired as many obvious, fabricated flaws could be seen by those who analyzed the original video recorded by the Central Television Station after watching it in slow motion.h

Another man said: gI think we should make judgments on any matters after analyzing it from all aspects. Take Falun Gong for example. Some claimed that they have practiced Falun Gong; in reality they have never practiced it according to its requirements. They merely claimed that they have practiced it yet their actions in reality are two different matters. Thus, I will never believe in cases such as the extreme incident broadcast by the Central Television Station (referring to the murder case committed by a Fu XX). Take another matter for example. For every cultivation way, there are some who achieve results and others who donft. However, if we conduct an investigation and make a comparison between these two groups in terms of percentage, wouldnft we be able to access its effectiveness?

I said, gThat sounds reasonable. Falun Gong is the most effective in curing illness and improving health. This has been confirmed by an extensive investigation and research conducted several years ago by medical experts and professors in mainland China. Up till 1988, the former chief of the Congress of Peoplefs Deputies, Qiao Shi has even specially formed a team made up of a group of veteran party members and experts to conduct a detailled investigation on Falun Gong. They came up with a conclusion that Falun Gong is a very good cultivation method. Its practice has lead to improvements in the physical health of civilians and elevation of moral standards. Thus it can only be of benefit to the general atmosphere of society and spiritual civilization. Take myself for example. Long time friends who are here all know that I had been suffering from hay fever for 10 years in a row. Every year during the period from February to May, I would surely have a running nose and be in extreme suffering. After having practiced Falun Gong for just several months, this stubborn illness was cured, and I havenft suffered from it any more for the past two years. As for the psychotics, they are unable to practice Falun Gong. It has always been clearly stated that psychotics are not allowed to practice Falun Gong. It is because Falun Gong is a cultivation way that enables your Main Consciousness to obtain gong. However, a mental patientfs Main Consciousness is too weak to even take charge of his own body. Consequently, if a psychotic gets into trouble when practicing Falun Gong, the blame should not be put on Falun Gong.h

A man went on to raise the question, gDoes Falun Gong have an organization?h

I explained, gFalun Gong does not have any organization whatsoever. Because of our common interest in cultivation, we naturally get together and become friends. Usually, everyone has their own job and family and we are free to come and go during group exercise. If you want to come you can come. If you feel like leaving, you can do so. I donft even know the names of some of the fellow practitioners whom I am not very familiar with. When we meet, we just greet each other by nodding or smiling. This is such a loose administration so how can it be called an organization? It is even more ridiculous that the Chinese authority tried to fabricate a claim against Falun Gong that we are a political organization. Actually, we as practitioners know that political activities are contradictory to and have a serious effect on our cultivation.h

Another woman said, gI had received Falun Gong fliers on several occasions in Chinatown. At first I felt a little astonished, but when I went home and read them, I discovered that there was nothing wrongh

I answered, gThatfs right. We are just trying our best to tell everyone the truth about the defamation and persecution of Falun Gong so as to eliminate peoplefs misunderstandings.h

The man who just raised a question went on to express his concern, gNow that the Chinese government is severely persecuting Falun Gong, why donft the Falun Gong practitioners just practice the exercises at home? Who do they have to stand up for Falun Gong?h

I responded, gThanks for your concern. But think about it, if you practice the exercises quietly at home this shows that deep in your heart, you know Falun Gong is good. Then why donft you stand up to say some true words for it when it is being slandered? We talk about Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Isnft it against Truthfulness?h

While the man was pondering over my words, another man said, gBut isnft it against Forbearance?h

I said, gThe forbearance we talk about is not the same as an everyday person swallowing an insult. It is to uphold the principle of peace and non-violence. But it definitely does not mean to indulge evil persons and their evil doing. With compassion and in a peaceful way, we speak out what is in our minds. Donft think of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance as three simple words. It is very difficult to truly live your lives by following these principles. As long as the Chinese government doesnft stop slandering and persecuting Falun Gong, we wonft stop clarifying the truth.h

Evidently, the ladies and gentlemen at the dinner had acquired some understanding of Falun Gong. As far as I know, almost all of my friends said that the Chinese government did a wrong thing to persecute Falun Gong. It is only that they have some doubts about what is Falun Dafa. Although they can not get immediate answers to all of their questions, at least after my clarification of the truth, in their minds there will be a new impression of Falun Gong, or they might approach their queries from a new viewpoint or angle. I hope that we can take advantage of every opportunity to clarify the truth of Falun Dafa.
