Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in a Military Enterprise in Anshun City

At the Fenglei Air Force Equipment Manufacturing Factory in Anshun City, Guizhou Province, where I work, the authorities have closely followed former president Jiang Zemin's regime to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. From 2001 to 2004, six practitioners from our factory were arrested because they told the facts about Falun Gong and two died from illnesses that arose as a result of a long and severe persecution.

In the past several years, about ten practitioners from my workplace have distributed leaflets exposing the persecution.

When I wrote a letter to my relatives who lived in another area about Falun Gong, the police located me and searched my home. They detained me for sixteen days. Because I refused to tell them where I had got the leaflets and refused to write the three statements¹they demanded from me, they sent me to the Anshun City Detention Centre for another sixteen days. Later, they released me after receiving 3,000 yuan²bail money from my family. My employer continued to monitor, follow and harass me thereafter. In March 2003, my employer requested that I attend a provincial brainwashing class. I was told that I would be accompanied by a cadre from my factory and that I needed to pay a fee of 3,000 yuan. My employer clearly told me that I could not go back to work unless I was "transformed."³So I had to leave my home to avoid further persecution.

Once, four practitioners from my workplace were reported and subsequently arrested while distributing leaflets. Three of them were detained in the detention centres between two to four and a half months. They all refused to disclose the source of our materials.

In 2004, a young female Dafa practitioner exposed the persecution to those who were "transforming" her, but she was directly sent to the Guizhou Women's Forced Labour Camp for a three-year term by the police from the factory. She had to leave behind her 2-year-old child.

In March 2004, a practitioner who was responsible for obtaining leaflets was reported to the police. They confiscated all of his Dafa books, CDs and materials and illegally detained him in the detention centre for four months. Only after his family paid 3,000 yuan did they release him. Shortly after his release, he wrote a letter to advise his fellow employees not to believe the lies about Falun Gong, but he was reported and sent to the detention centre again for over one month. On December 1st 2004, four to five police officers broke into his home and tried to force him to sign the three statements, but he refused. Then, several police officers searched his home illegally, arrested him and took him to the detention centre, and sentenced him to three years of forced labour in the Zhongba Forced Labour Camp in Guizhou Province. They withheld all of his salary as well. Since his wife does not work, the whole family has to live on his meagre pension.

The Fenglei Air Force Equipment Manufacturing Factory was very harsh on Falun Gong practitioners financially. A detained practitioner was only given 230 yuan to live on. If the practitioner refused to write the three statements, his or her salary would be withheld completely. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Committee, labour union, police department, organisation department, discipline inspection commission, neighbourhood committee and retiree office of the factory often sent people to harass Falun Gong practitioners, monitored them around the clock and patrolled the site in shifts. They claimed that they would arrest Falun Gong practitioner as soon as they spotted them. They also awarded the perpetrators with more than 500 yuan.

Note

1. "Three Statements": Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write "Repentance Statement," "Guarantee Statement" or 'Dissociation Statement" as proof that they have given up their belief. In the statement, the practitioner is forced to admit remorse for practising Falun Gong, promise to give up Falun Gong, and never again associate with other practitioners or go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.

2. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
