The UK Epoch Times held activities in Manchester's Chinatown regarding The Nine Commentaries editorial and the spate of withdrawals from the Chinese Communist Party.
The activity was attended by a group of volunteers who support freedom for the Chinese people and recognise the true nature of theChinese Communist Party (CCP) and the evil it has done to the Chinese people. Some Falun Gong practitioners also joined the event because the CCP and Jiang Zemin are responsible for six years of persecution against Falun Gong practitioners and the loss of 2,747 practitioners' lives. The practitioners hoped to join the other volunteers in letting people know more about the CCP's crimes.
Rain, which had been pouring non-stop all morning, stopped when the activities began at noon on October 1st. Activities included an exhibition of pictures illustrating the crimes against the people committed during the previous decade by the Communist Party of China. A Video-CD of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party was shown at the same time, attracting a lot of Chinese people over to watch. More people watched from across the street. Banners reading "Supporting four million withdrawals from the Communist Party of China" and "There will not be a new China with the Communist Party" attracted people's attention. A lot of Chinese took a picture of the banner. Some even took a photo of their friends under the banner.
Shortly after the activity began, a Chinese boy came and asked for material. He said that everyone knew that the Communist Party is bad and has done a lot of bad things. He was especially interested in the TV production of the Nine Commentaries. Volunteers gave him the address of the website of the Fang Kuangming station and told him that he can download programmes for free from that network. He was very pleased and said happily that he will go to the Dajiyuan's website to publish a statement of withdrawal from the Chinese Communist Party.
A local senior overseas Chinese especially supported this activity. She told a volunteer that she had personal experience of the "three against and five against" policy and was once forced to wear a dunce’s hat and dragged through the streets. She also enquired whether there were photo exhibition boards to spare that she could take home. She wanted to show them to her relatives and friends. When we told that there were not, she took copies of the Nine Commentaries and other material.
Two westerners were attracted by the photo exhibition boards. After reading the leaflet, they came to find out more. They said, except for the Tiananmen incident, they knew nothing about other bad things done by the CCP. The volunteers told them that it was because the CCP did its best to distort and conceal its true history, including the illusion of prosperity that it is trying hard to maintain at present. Not only Chinese, but a lot of westerners have been deceived by the false appearance. After the conversation, a lecturer at the University of Manchester still wanted to hear more and asked whether there were seminars that he could attend. When the volunteers from Manchester told him about plans to organise a seminar on the Nine Commentaries in Manchester, he was very glad and left his details and requested us to notify him. When leaving, he took some Chinese versions of the Nine Commentaries and material for his Chinese friends. He also said that he will bring his Chinese friends to participate in the seminar.
After looking at the exhibition, a lady from Zimbabwe pointed to the petition for withdrawing from the CCP on the table and asked whether it was to object to the Chinese Government. After she learned about the reason for the activity, she did not hesitate to sign her name. She told the reporter that the only one that supported the corrupt government of Zimbabwe was the Communist Party of China. She gladly took away a copy of the Nine Commentaries and told the reporter that she supported the present activity. She said she will not only read the whole book carefully but inform her friends about this thing.
This activity also obtained support from some westerners. Anthony Lens, who participated in the activity, said that he came to join the activity on the basis of the persecution of human rights. He did not think there is something unintelligible about it. On the contrary, he thought that his western face could draw the attention of some foreigners to this question and allow them to learn about the current situation of human rights in China. He also said that he offers those Chinese from the mainland who were unwilling to talk to other Chinese because of worry a chance to understand the facts.
The activity was originally scheduled to finish at 5 o'clock. Yet because people kept coming, the activity was extended repeatedly. At the end, the banner attracted a student group. A lot of people passed by in front of the stand several times and took the material about the Nine Commentaries.
The volunteers from the Epoch Times told the reporter that many Chinese compatriots were hoodwinked by CCP propaganda and that they will continue to reveal the tyranny of the Communist Party of China and let more Chinese compatriots understand the true face of the Communist Party.
