The Persecution of Dafa Practitioners in Prison in Jiangxi Province

Yuzhang Prison of Jiangxi Province, located in Xinjian County, is designated as "A Provincial Model of a Civilised Prison." Nearly 100 Falun Dafa practitioners have been imprisoned there. Because of their firm belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance," the practitioners have suffered brutal torture in this prison.

The following is a partial list of the Dafa practitioners whose names we know, who have suffered persecution in Yuzhang Prison.

The police arrested the above-mentioned Dafa practitioners in February of 2001 for their belief in "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance," and for their telling the facts of Falun Dafa to people who had been misled by the government propaganda. These innocent practitioners were sentenced to 5 years, 6 years, 7 years, 8 years, 9 years, up to 11 years. After suffering cruel torture at the hands of the police and having suffered for as long as 10 months of detention, they were illegally imprisoned in Yuzhang Prison at the end of December 2001.

The prison applied all kinds of soft and hard tactics to force the practitioners to "transform¹" and give up their belief in Falun Gong. First, the practitioners were separated into different work divisions, with three inmates monitoring each of the practitioners. The practitioners were not allowed to do their Falun Gong exercises and were not allowed to speak about Falun Dafa. In the meantime, the deputy division head and the team leader monitored the practitioners strictly. They tried to force the practitioners with tactics such as individual interrogation, withholding "family visits," and so on. Then police from the education section forced the practitioners to attend group brainwashing sessions using videotapes, books and other slanderous propaganda that defames Dafa. Then, they tried to force the practitioners to write a repentance statement and critical articles within a limited time, following their viewing of these slanderous materials. Those who followed their instructions were given reduced terms as a reward. For the practitioners on whom these tactics had no effect, the police incited the criminal inmates to torture them. The inmates were rewarded with a six-month term reduction if they forced a practitioner to "transform." Under such incitement and seduction, the inmates covered the practitioners' eyes, and beat and kicked them frenziedly. They violently whipped them with steel chains, handcuffed the practitioners' hands behind their backs and hung them up for long durations. They jabbed practitioners' back and knees with steel bars, deprived them of sleep by handcuffing them around the clock, and forced them to do manual labour. They also force-fed the practitioners and locked them in confinement cells for long periods of time. The prison used all kinds of cruel and inhuman tortures on the practitioners.

The practitioners are physically extremely weak and emaciated from the torture. Some of them have been ill for a long time, some are disabled, some have impaired memory and some are still experiencing mental trauma.

We call on the international society and people everywhere to pay attention to these ongoing crimes in the prisons of China, to stop the persecution and help the innocent practitioners regain their freedom.
